Meet Chance Sanderlin

We recently connected with Chance Sanderlin and have shared our conversation below.

Chance, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I nurture my creativity by venturing outdoors, where I perceive everything as artistic expression. Whether it’s grand structures or tiny treasures on the ground, each holds potential for inspiration. My artistic expression manifests through graphic design, crafting pieces, and experimenting with a Broad ranging clothing combination.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I launched Overrated Cultuur at the age of 12, just on the brink of turning 13. The idea sparked Riding in the back of my mother’s truck during wintertime when the grass ceased to grow, and I sought ways to earn money. The concept of crafting clothes ignited within me. Now, at 18, soon to be 19, my passion for the artistry of clothing has only deepened. Through garments, I convey my personal narrative, sharing both joyous and painful moments with the world. It’s a profound blessing to express myself and expand my business through fashion, showcasing my identity in every stitch.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three pillars of knowledge guide my life: Patience, persistence, and passion. These three principles form the bedrock of my daily existence, anchoring me to both my short-term and long-term aspirations for success. Patience instills in me the wisdom that achievements are not instantaneous; they evolve over time with dedication and effort. Persistence empowers me to maintain unwavering consistency, even in the face of adversity. Passion fuels my journey by infusing my dreams with love, devotion, and undivided attention, enabling me to sidestep distractions and remain steadfastly focused on the enduring fulfillment of my life’s purpose.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

The pivotal moment of growth in my life occurred when I made the decision to depart from my hometown of Baltimore City and venture to Atlanta in pursuit of my dreams. Arriving in Atlanta to attend Clark Atlanta University, I found myself in a city where I knew no one. Yet, this leap of faith transformed my life. Embracing independence, I took charge of my journey, assuming full responsibility for expanding my business. Since then, I’ve remained steadfast in fulfilling every goal I set upon my arrival in Atlanta, continuously striving to achieve all that I envision.
