Meet Chandali Gullick

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chandali Gullick a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Chandali, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

Confidence didn’t come easy—it’s something I’ve had to work at, and still do, every day. Starting Skin Is In was like stepping into a world where I had to prove myself constantly, not just to clients but to myself. There were days I questioned every choice I made, especially in the beginning when clients weren’t filling my schedule, and every bill felt like a mountain to climb. It’s a scary feeling, wondering if you’re on the right path or if it’s even worth it. But somewhere in the struggle, I learned that confidence isn’t a feeling that magically arrives. It’s a practice.

I started showing up every day as if I already had the confidence I wanted, even if it felt forced. Over time, I began to see the impact of my work on my clients—the way they’d look in the mirror with that new glow, or leave feeling cared for, seen, and valued. Those moments reminded me why I started and why it’s worth pushing through. Now, building confidence has become part of my routine, like a muscle I exercise daily. Every time I invest in learning, ask for feedback, or celebrate the small wins, I’m choosing confidence. It’s not about never doubting myself; it’s about trusting that I’ll keep showing up, learning, and moving forward regardless.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Chandali, the founder of Skin Is In, a skincare studio here in Wichita, Kansas that’s as much about confidence-building as it is about skincare. I’ve created this space to be a place where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to invest in themselves, no judgment attached. It’s been an incredible journey, with a lot of growth fueled by grants and partnerships that help me bring advanced skincare and personalized care to clients who might not have found it elsewhere.

Outside the studio, I’m all about sharing what I’ve learned with others, especially new estheticians. Through my YouTube channel, I connect with those just getting into the field, helping them navigate their first steps. This year, I got to speak at the Science of Skincare Summit, which was huge, and I’m currently working toward my esthetics instructor license to keep pouring back into the industry. Skin Is In is growing, and I’m so excited to keep finding ways to make skincare—and self-care—more accessible and inspiring for everyone.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that really shaped my journey have been resilience, curiosity, and connection. Resilience was crucial—there were times when everything felt like an uphill battle, and the ability to stay focused and keep going, even when things got tough, made all the difference. For anyone starting out, resilience isn’t about not failing; it’s about learning how to get back up and adjust. My advice would be to take every setback as a lesson, and let it shape your growth rather than discourage you.

Curiosity was another key part. I didn’t know everything when I started, but I was always willing to learn—from mentors, other entrepreneurs, and even clients. Staying curious about new techniques, trends, and strategies keeps you adaptable, and in this industry, that’s huge. My advice is to keep asking questions and seeking out new information—whether that’s through courses, networking, or even just exploring online resources.

Lastly, connection has been essential. Building real, meaningful relationships has helped me create a strong client base, gain mentorship, and establish partnerships that support my growth. For those early on in their journey, focus on nurturing connections. Find communities or networks that align with your goals and values and be intentional about showing up for others. You never know where a conversation or collaboration might lead.

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?

I believe in leaning into your strengths while staying aware of where you need support. When I started Skin Is In, I had a strong foundation in skincare, client relationships, and creating safe spaces for people to focus on self-care. These strengths were what helped me build my brand’s identity and connect with my clients authentically. But there were other areas, like business finance and marketing, where I was less confident. Rather than trying to be perfect at everything, I chose to double down on my strengths and bring in resources or people to support me in the areas where I needed help.

For example, I realized early on that my strengths lay in delivering quality skincare and connecting with my clients. Marketing, however, was a whole other world. I didn’t have the time or expertise to dive deeply into every tactic, so I invested in mentorship and eventually built connections with people who could advise me on my marketing approach. Focusing on my core strengths allowed me to create a loyal client base and a brand voice that felt real and relatable to people, and I let my support system help me reach new audiences.

I believe when you go all in on your strengths, you build a stronger foundation for your business or career. It allows you to stand out and feel confident in what you’re doing. So, my advice is to focus on what you’re naturally great at, bring in support where needed, and let your unique strengths be the center of what makes you successful.
