We were lucky to catch up with Chanel Abreu recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chanel , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I draw my resilience from the support of those who believe in me and my work. My children especially observe everything I do, and making them proud is my greatest motivation.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As an actress, singer, and entertainer, I have established a versatile career, with experience in stage productions, festivals, and film. I am currently pursuing an Associate’s degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Music. Although I have been performing my entire life, I took a break during my twenties to focus on raising my family. Prior to the pandemic, I worked for a cleaning company and as a preschool teacher. However, I chose to pursue my passion for performing once again. This decision involved a significant learning curve, particularly when performing with a cover band. Nevertheless, it has led to numerous opportunities, including stage plays and acting roles. I am grateful to have met many remarkable individuals who have supported me throughout this journey. My current project involves writing and directing a short film titled ‘Inherent Unrest,’ which explores the long-term effects of childhood trauma. My ultimate goal is to continue crafting compelling stories across various mediums.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My passion for learning is one of my most valuable assets. I believe that embracing challenges and stepping outside of my comfort zone is essential for growth and development. By combining this mindset with a strong work ethic, I aim to make a meaningful impact in all that I do. To those just beginning their journey, I encourage you to stay true to your vision and pursue your passions with purpose and dedication. Leverage available resources, seek guidance from others, and remain committed to your goals.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Throughout my journey, I have benefited from the guidance of numerous mentors, with Elicia Moore-Hill, Samuel McWhite, Pat Dorch, and Jonovan Adams being particularly influential. As experts in their fields, they have shared their valuable insights, advice, and encouragement, gained through their extensive experience and commitment to ongoing learning. I have endeavored to model my approach on their examples, and I acknowledge the critical role that mentorship has played in my growth and achievements.
