Meet Chanel Cooper

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chanel Cooper. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Chanel, we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Thank you for this question. I had to become aware of my mental health first then once I realized my level of well-being was not where I wanted it to be, I desired to become a better person for myself. (That’s what feeds a healthier mental, being kind to you for you. ) In that I prayed and affirmed what I wanted and God prepared me for who I needed to become. I’ve heard this quote by Denzel Washington that says, “If you pray for rain, you gotta deal with the mud too. That’s part of it.” With that, I’ve chosen to be curious and compassionate in my hardships. I go with the ebbs and flows of life and I don’t give up. I overcome challenges by keeping it moving and prioritizing feeling good.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am Team Leader and Hairstylist at The Circuit Salon. What makes my profession so special is that I am able to incorporate all of my gifts in to this one industry. I use my leadership skills, creative vision, love for education, innovation, and so much more to create success in my career.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My advice is to stay compassionate, courageous, and curious.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book I’ve invested many reads in is The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. This book is universal. It will help bring peace in all areas of your life, including the peace within. The first agreement is to Be Impeccable with your Word. This reminds me to be a person of good character in my workplace, with my family and friends, and in my community. The second agreement is Don’t Make Assumptions. This reminds me that my perspective is everything. The third agreement is Don’t Take Things Personally. This reminds me that my Vortex is always good. The fourth agreement is Always Do your Best. This lets me know that when I choose to do good, good comes back around. This also reminds me to be compassionate with myself in this marathon. My best will not be the same every day.
