Meet Chanel Jones

We were lucky to catch up with Chanel Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.

Chanel, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I developed my confidence and self-esteem through my relationship with God and by intentionally growing in my faith. Before I truly knew Him, I struggled deeply with self-esteem. I never believed I had anything worthy to say or that I was smart enough to add value to any conversation. Everything changed when I discovered my identity in God. I began to see myself the way He sees me and started to operate from a place of faith and boldness. I realized that it’s not about how others see me or even how I see myself, but how God sees me. If He calls me fearfully and wonderfully made, then that is who I am.
As I started to align my thoughts with His truth, my perspective shifted. The way I viewed myself and spoke to myself transformed. I began speaking with purpose and encouragement, not only to build my own confidence but to inspire others to see themselves through God’s eyes as well. I now understand that there is purpose in my voice, and I am determined to use it to uplift and empower others. Just as I once needed kind and affirming words, I now strive to offer them to those who may need that same reminder of their worth and purpose in God.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am the author of From Shyness to Boldness and the Founder of Person Leading Mentorship LLC, an organization dedicated to empowering students and women to lead boldly in their purpose through faith, reflection, and personal growth. From my book, I launched a bi-weekly book club designed to build a community of women who seek accountability, encouragement, and courage to walk confidently in their God-given calling. My vision is to grow this community to 100 women who are eager to grow boldly together and support one another’s journeys toward purpose and leadership. Through Person Leading Mentorship LLC, I create and facilitate 6–8 week programs that integrate journaling, faith, and intentional reflection to help students develop confidence, clarity, and purpose. I partner with schools, colleges, and community centers to guide students through a transformative process of self-discovery and growth. Each session focuses on emotional wellness, leadership development, and faith-based values that prepare students for success in life, career, and relationships. What I feel most excited about is my new book launch. I’m currently working on my next book, a guided student journal that complements my programs and serves as a tool for daily intentionality, mindfulness, and faith-based goal setting. This journal will act as both an anchor for the workshops and a standalone resource for students seeking personal development and spiritual growth.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that have been most impactful in my journey are effective communication and public speaking, having a strong vision that provides direction toward purpose, and biblical knowledge and understanding, which allow me to apply godly principles in my daily life.

Advice to Others:
Take time to study great leaders who communicate with clarity and conviction. Journal your thoughts and ideas so you can better organize and articulate them when speaking publicly. Most importantly, study the Bible, not just to know what it says, but to truly apply its principles to your everyday actions and decisions.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

Outside of the Bible, which is the first and most influential book in my life, the book that has had the greatest impact on me is The Principles and Power of Vision by Dr. Myles Munroe. This book taught me how to dream with God and to always lead with vision. A powerful quote that continues to shape my journey is: “Vision is a conception that is inspired by God in the hearts of humans. The greatest gift God ever gave humanity is not sight, but vision. Sight is a function of the eyes, but vision is a function of the heart.” This truth reminded me that even if a person is physically blind, they can still be blessed with vision, the ability to see beyond present circumstances, to hope, to pursue purpose, and to move toward the future God designed for them.
