We recently connected with Chanin and Deana Malley and Pickering and have shared our conversation below.
Chanin and Deana , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
In our industry we deal with entertainment which is always evolving so Deana and I frequently need to update our entertainment standards by researching the newest movies and shows and trends. We frequently go to plays, movies and events that help us hone our skills and create new characters to bring life to every home.
A recent film we saw was the Barbie movie it really helped us create a new Barbie experience with the children we entertain.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi everyone we are SwirlCosplay! We are two best friends who wanted to bring magic to every home. We bring party and corporate experiences that everyone can experience! We dance and play games and even bring arts and crafts to birthday parties. Every party is different and we know that and try to create characters to fit the theme as well as bring new life to old classics! We try to bring a premium experience that sets the bar high. We recently added even more mermaids and each day we are bringing a new character to the fold.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities most important to a party owner would be perservence
Optimisim
Patience.
These are important because without them it would be hard to keep being a party owner.
Our advice to new cosplayers or party company owners is that they preserve like we did. Not every party will go planned and not every event. You have to be able to think on your feet and be ready to keep the ball going and not give up. Optimism is also important because there are slow months that make it hard financially and emotionally to keep going. Finding a happy or positive outlook is most important to your success. Being patient and realizing that every child will experience a moment differently as well as the setting up the party experience is important as well.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Our ideal client is one that is super open minded but has an idea of what they want for their party experience. We love creating characters for a party but we usually need some sort of theme or location to get started. Having a client that already knows the time, location and their main expectations helps to go along way in us being able to know if this match is a good fit.
