Meet Channing

We were lucky to catch up with Channing recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Channing, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Oh, this is a great question! I find my resilience in having a strong support system, including my parents, friends, and therapist. They all offer pep talks and reassurance, reminding me of how far I’ve come and how much better things are than what’s bringing me down. Before I even consider turning to my peers or family, I always pray to God for healing, reassurance, and protection, among other things. I also engage in self-pep talks to boost my confidence and motivation.

Of course, we all face challenges and difficulties that can be tough to overcome. But I believe that if you prioritize God and seek support from your loved ones, you can overcome most obstacles. Life isn’t meant to be easy or straightforward, but it’s possible to overcome anything if you keep believing in yourself and moving forward. Don’t let setbacks hold you back; always remember that anything difficult is worth persevering through, even if it means choosing the hard path over the easy one.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hello everyone, my name is Channing Monae, and I’m your beautician. I relocated from Atlanta, Georgia, to Denver, Colorado, to pursue and further my career as a hairstylist. I graduated from the Aveda Institute in Atlanta with a cosmetology degree. I currently hold three licenses: one in Georgia, one in California, and now one in Colorado. I specialize in both healthy hair and extensions, and I’m quite diverse. I’ve been doing hair since I was about 11 years old and have continued to do it until now, which has become my passion. I absolutely love doing hair and making women feel great. I believe that would be the greatest part of my job. I enjoy the company of my clients, the relationships that grow between us, the therapeutic sessions we have, and simply getting to know each other while beautifying or enhancing their beauty. It brings me immense joy to see clients come in and leave with a smile on their face, sometimes even tears of happiness. I have a few exciting projects coming up for my clients and more, but I’ll keep those details under wraps for now. I can’t wait to share the good news with everyone!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I began my professional journey as an assistant to a stylist, who imparted invaluable knowledge that I still carry with me today. A shoutout to her (TyannaRenee)! Sometimes, we desire to immediately transition into a specific role without building ourselves from the ground up. However, it’s crucial to start somewhere and allow someone to teach you the tools to become the version of yourself you aspire to. This requires patience, hard work, dedication, and trust. Even as a well-educated stylist, I continue to attend classes to enhance my knowledge and work ethic, which I believe is essential. It’s vital to continuously educate oneself, especially in today’s rapidly evolving world where new trends emerge. Education is always a key to success. I also intend to share my knowledge and expertise with others. We all want to see the next generation thrive and succeed, so it’s important to maintain an open heart and continue to share and support others, just as someone helped you build yourself up. In essence, I would advise you to prioritize education, maintain an open heart, and believe in yourself and your business practices.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

I have three remarkable women in my life who play a significant role in my growth. My mother has been a treasure trove of knowledge for me. When faced with challenging situations, I often seek her guidance. She’s not afraid to give me tough talks and push me to clear my mind and move forward, helping me overcome obstacles and become a better version of myself.

My aunt, like my mother, also provides me with hard talks and reminds me of my past achievements and the strength I’ve demonstrated. She reminds me that the current challenges are nothing compared to what I’ve overcome before, instilling confidence in my ability to overcome them.

Lastly, I have my “bonus mom,” who has taught me to embrace risk-taking and take action without hesitation or regret. She emphasizes the importance of staying true to myself and maintaining a compassionate spirit, even in the face of adversity. These three women have collectively shaped me into the person I am today.
