Meet Chantal Taylor

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chantal Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Chantal , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I get my resilience from my grandmother, Gloria Taylor. She was the true definition of strength, grace, and perseverance. Watching her navigate life with unwavering faith, kindness, and determination taught me how to stand tall, even in the face of adversity. Her love was fierce, her spirit unbreakable, and her wisdom timeless. Every time life tries to knock me down, I think about how she faced her battles—with dignity and courage—and I push forward. She instilled in me the mindset that setbacks are setups for comebacks, and that has carried me through some of the darkest moments of my life. Her legacy lives on in me, and I’m proud to walk in her strength every single day.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I wear many hats, but at the heart of everything I do is a deep passion for purpose-driven work that uplifts, empowers, and tells authentic stories. I’m the founder and editor-in-chief of The Legacy Magazine MS, a publication that highlights the culture, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit of Mississippi and beyond. I also lead The Legacy Empowerment Network Incorporated, a nonprofit that supports young entrepreneurs and musicians—especially those in the Southern Soul genre—through mentorship, resources, and opportunities to shine.

Professionally, I’m also a publicist for Hit4Hit Entertainment, CEO of Velvet Lux Hair Company and True Essence Organics, and co-host of the Standing on Business podcast—a raw and real space where we have unfiltered conversations that matter. I’m a line dancer, a Fleet Magazine proofreader, and a proud member of several empowering groups including Fleet DJs and All Business Group (ABG). Each lane allows me to connect with people, tell powerful stories, and create spaces where others can thrive.

What excites me most is watching a vision come to life—from launching skincare lines to building platforms that help others share their truth. I recently finished radiation and surgeries after being told I wouldn’t make it into the new year. But God had other plans. I’m still standing—and more determined than ever to pour into my purpose.

What’s new? I’m currently working on my upcoming thriller No Saints in Sugar Hill—a chilling, drama-filled tale set in a small Southern town where every saint has a secret, and every sinner has a score to settle. This story dives into love, loyalty, betrayal, and the dark truths people hide behind their Sunday best. I’m also launching a Southern Soul music trivia app and developing a full online course to teach others how to create and publish their own magazines. Expansion is the theme of this season—and I’m just getting started.

I want folks to know that I don’t just build brands—I build legacy. Everything I touch, I do with intention, faith, and the fire to inspire others to do the same.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, resourcefulness, and relationship-building.

Resilience has carried me through every setback, diagnosis, and delay. Life threw me some heavy punches—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—but I refused to stay down. For anyone just starting out, know that success isn’t about having a perfect path. It’s about how many times you get back up and push forward with purpose. Build your resilience by feeding your faith, staying grounded in your “why,” and reminding yourself that pressure creates diamonds.

Resourcefulness has been a game-changer, especially as a multi-hyphenate entrepreneur. I didn’t always have the funding, connections, or access others had—but I made it work. I Googled, I learned, I asked questions, and I turned every “no” into fuel. For those starting out: don’t wait until you feel ready or have all the tools. Use what you have, where you are, and be willing to learn as you go. Bet on yourself.

Relationship-building is the secret sauce. The right connections open doors, elevate your vision, and keep you inspired. But relationships aren’t just about networking—they’re about showing up authentically, supporting others, and nurturing real connections. My advice? Be intentional about who you surround yourself with. Seek out mentors, collaborators, and friends who challenge and champion you.

Your journey won’t always be easy, but if you stay resilient, resourceful, and rooted in meaningful relationships, you’ll be unstoppable.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been learning to slow down and prioritize my healing—mentally, physically, and spiritually. As someone who’s always in “go mode,” juggling multiple businesses, parenting, school, and advocacy work, I used to wear busyness like a badge of honor. But facing a life-threatening diagnosis shifted everything. I had to learn that rest is not weakness—it’s part of the work.

I became more intentional about setting boundaries, listening to my body, and giving myself the grace to just be. That growth has helped me become a better leader, creator, and human overall. I’ve also grown in how I protect my peace—what I say yes to, who I keep around me, and how I show up in rooms. I’m no longer just building businesses; I’m building a life that aligns with my purpose and my well-being.

Growth doesn’t always look like wins on paper—it can look like finally choosing you, and that’s exactly what I’ve done.
