Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chanthen Nene. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Chanthen, thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.
When I face writer’s block, I’ve found that stepping outside my usual routine helps the most. Experiencing something new—whether it’s attending an event, exploring a different environment, or even just taking a walk—refreshes my perspective. I also read my work out loud to friends, which not only helps me hear it differently but also sparks new ideas through their reactions and feedback. These small shifts in environment and audience often reignite my creativity.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a filmmaker and storyteller focused on creating intimate, character-driven work on tight timelines and budgets. What excites me most is the challenge—turning limitations into creativity and building a collaborative environment where actors and crew can bring their best ideas forward. My work is rooted in authenticity, highlighting perspectives and communities that deserve more visibility.
Right now, I’m developing a new micro-budget SAG short filmed across Los Angeles, blending emerging talent with union actors. I’m also expanding into producing for other creatives, helping them bring their concepts from script to screen with clarity and intention. At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to meaningful, grounded storytelling that leaves a lasting impression.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that I think have been the most impactful in my journey is first. my adaptability to new roles, second is my ability to work with many different type of people and thirdly I’m an excellent problem solver

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I would spend that time building organizations that help those with disabilities achieve their goals in the entertainment industry.
