Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Charie Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Charie, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I’ve been drawing and coloring since I was a boy and I never stopped even with hardships and obstacles along the way. I was always inspired by the comic book artworks from visiting comic stores and popular superhero movies. Combined with the love for both, I got the idea to make handmade comics from the movies, sketching the actor’s faces, the costumes and The fight scenes, and so far I’ve gotten much good audience from around the Internet. Thanks to the people followed me.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a comic artist, and I make superhero artwork to post online. I’ve come from poverty background and growing up I got the idea of making handmade comics based off popular superhero movies. I’m very hard working artist looking for a professional career to show my art to people everywhere online, (and to get out of my dead end job). I hope to this will help me rise to the top, inspire people to become artists, have fun making them, and make a living out of it. And to top it all of, to make my mother proud.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The skills I developed and have practiced from my comics is sketching out the actor’s faces and expressions, drawing the costume designs, the fight scenes, and repeating the same for each panel over and over. I know how to blend colors, highlight, shadow and coloring the correct colors. For anyone aspiring to be a an artist, keep practicing and practicing, like I have. Years ago when I started, the artwork looked a little sloppy, but people really liked it, and that’s when I realized, I can and have to do better.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The number one obstacle that I’m facing right now is my dead end job, I have to work late almost every night, which doesn’t give me much time to draw or post. I’m trying very hard to work on my art after work, staying late, but other days I’m just exhausted, but hey I have to pay the bills and eat. Hopefully I rise up and make a living to make myself and others happy. I’m also trying to make it big on YouTube with my comics, trying hard everyday. Hopefully this magazine can get me exposed to the world of comics.
