We were lucky to catch up with Charisse Piros recently and have shared our conversation below.
Charisse, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I overcame imposter syndrome by getting to the root of “you are not good enough” thoughts. I think meditating on why you are feeling that way changes your mindset and allows you to heal. I realized in my first year of posting content for my YouTube channel “my inner critic” came from mean girls in middle school. I did not feel included especially with girls at school that looked like me. Going LIVE and being in front of a camera “my inner critic” was loud! I ignored it but felt that everyone knew I was a phony. Saying affirmations changed my mindset and now I don’t think twice about being on camera. I am not that little girl, scared and wanting to belong. I am building a sisterhood! I am a business owner! Little Char would be proud.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Charisse I am a confidence coach and blogger. I help women unlock their unleashed potential by helping them increase their confidence. I do this by sharing self-care methods that don’t just include glitter and bath bombs. I really help women find the deeper meaning of what they need. My blog website focuses on women’s empowerment, self-care, and relationship advice. The blog consists of myself and my mother Via, we each share our own POV giving a spin on each topic and helping young and old generations. We cover topics such as race, wage differences, ways to stay fit, and healing from grief, This year we purchased our LLC and opened an online clothing boutique selling t-shirts, drink wear, and more! Next month I am hosting a Sleepover Safe Space virtual event to talk about self-love in a fun way supporting women as they are. The rest of the year will be focused on building a self-care, confidence course called Fierce Femmes and increasing awareness and sales for my online boutique.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Technical Skills: I have always been the techie person in my family. I used to work in IT several years ago, which has come in handy with updating my website, learning SEO, and editing videos. I have only had to pay a freelancer once to help with a website issue, in the long run, that will save me thousands.
2. Always Learning: I had no idea what I was doing when I started the blog. I enrolled in every single business course, and mastermind I could. I wanted to ingest knowledge and 2 years later the knowledge I learned still helps me daily.
3. Time Management: Making a schedule and managing your time effectively is an absolute must. I have never met a deadline or flaked on a meeting for my business. Setting alarms on your phone, and signing up for Calendly or similar tools really keep you organized.
My advice is to know your WHY. If you don’t know why you are passionate about your business, the bad days will force you to quit. Knowing your WHY is the key to succeeding. Surround yourself with entrepreneurs that are as passionate as you. Co-working sessions, brainstorms over virtual coffee, meetups really help.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I learned during 2020 that feeling grounded is very big for me: meditation and writing help. I enjoy guided meditations and when I am overwhelmed this is my go-to. If I am out in public, listening to music and breathing in and out alleviates the overwhelming feeling.
