Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Charla Hobson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Charla, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence and self-esteem have been shaped by the strong women in my life, especially my mom and grandmothers. They were so self-aware, confident, and unapologetically themselves, and they passed that down to me by showing me the importance of embracing who I am. Losing them was difficult, but I’ve carried their legacy of confidence and authenticity with me. My faith in God also plays a big role—it reminds me that my worth is not tied to external things, but to who I am in Him. Throughout my journey I’ve learned that confidence grows when you truly accept yourself, quirks and all, and allow your inner self to shine through in everything you do, including how you dress.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a holistic style coach, and my passion is helping women feel empowered, confident, and authentic through their wardrobes. What makes my work so special is that it’s not just about clothes—it’s about transformation. I guide women on a journey to reconnect with who they are on the inside and express that through their style. I believe every woman deserves to feel seen and confident in her own skin, and my goal is to simplify the process of getting dressed so it becomes something women actually look forward to, rather than a daily challenge.
What excites me most is the moment when a woman truly sees herself in a new light—when she realizes that her style can be a powerful tool to elevate her life. I teach women how to build a functional, cohesive wardrobe that not only looks great but also serves their lifestyle, using my signature capsule wardrobe approach. It’s about more than just looking good; it’s about feeling aligned with who you are and stepping into each day with confidence.
I’ve had the honor of helping thousands of women transform their style and, more importantly, their self-perception. One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is my one-on-one style coaching offer, where I work closely with women to curate a wardrobe that’s personalized to their needs and lifestyle. I help clients refine their existing wardrobe, find clarity in their style, and build a system that makes getting dressed effortless. My personalized service, the ‘Winning Wardrobe Fix,’ is designed for driven women who want to elevate their style effortlessly, all while simplifying their wardrobe choices to align with their busy, multifaceted lives.
At the core of everything I do is the belief that style is not just about what you wear—it’s about who you are becoming. My work is here to help women step confidently into that journey.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey across various fields, from education to corporate Learning and Development and style coaching, are self-awareness, adaptability, and deep listening.
Self-awareness: This has been key in every stage of my life, whether earning my BA in Fashion Design and Marketing, transitioning into education, or facilitating learning in corporate environments. Knowing my strengths and values has allowed me to navigate these paths confidently. I encourage others to reflect on their personal strengths and passions—it’s essential for authentic success.
Adaptability: My journey has required constant growth, from acquiring a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Management, to earning several styling certifications. Shifting from teaching to corporate Learning and Development and style coaching has taught me to embrace change as a source of new opportunities. My advice is to stay flexible and open to new directions—often, they lead to the most rewarding experiences.
Deep listening: Whether I’m coaching women, working with corporate teams, or teaching, deep listening allows me to connect meaningfully, understand needs, and provide tailored solutions. For those just starting, developing the skill of truly listening will open doors to stronger relationships and lasting impact in any field.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The biggest challenge I’ve faced recently is the grief of losing my mom and both grandmothers in the past three years, with my mom’s sudden passing being especially hard. These women shaped so much of who I am—my confidence, authenticity, and sense of style.
To navigate this difficult time, I’ve leaned heavily on my faith, which grounds me and gives me the strength to keep moving forward. My personal style has also been a source of healing. Having a wardrobe that aligns fully with who I am and what I love has allowed me to find joy even in the midst of grief. It’s a way for me to honor their legacy, express who I am, and stay present in the moment.
Above all, my family is my anchor- My husband and 3 lovely children. Their love and support remind me daily of the importance of staying true to myself, embracing faith, and finding beauty in life, even during challenging times. Faith, style, and family—these are the pillars that keep me grounded and help me navigate both the joyful and difficult seasons of life.
