Meet Charles “dj Chase” Taylor

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Charles “dj Chase” Taylor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Charles “DJ Chase”, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from my need for survival. I have gone through a lot of traumatic events in my life. I apply them to my music and my business. I’m a fighter and never try to go down without a fight. I believe God is walking with me. I’m from New York, so the only way we know if a fight.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

DJ Chase is the founder of New York City-based production company Worldwide Soundz Records, the founder of DJ Chase Publishing LLC and DJ Chase Radio. With over 18 years of industry experience, he continues to tour nation-wide as a professional show DJ, — with some of his credits including SXSW, Shade 45 on SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and Major Stage, LLC. He is proud to head the only Black-owned publishing company in NYC, and is dedicated to providing consultation to independent artists and executives to continue seeing the indie scene flourish. Currently he has relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three qualities that were most impactful to my journey is 1. My ability to read and view a situation very quickly. I can figure things out very quickly. 2. My ability to discover people’s needs and wants. 3. My simple approach to thing. I can approach the most complex tasks, and simplify them.
I would tell anyone who is early in their journey to understand what your getting yourself into before you do it. Understand that music is a show business not the friend business. I would tell them to improve your patience, and improve controlling your emotions.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

In music, my parents have done many impactful things for me. The most impactful thing my parents have done for me is they allowed me to make my own decisions. I was never rushed or pressured to do anything growing up. They allowed me my freedom at a young age and exposed to me values more than rules. I will always love them and appreciate that they gave me this freedom.
They gave me the mindset to understand, that I am a strong black man, and never answer to a white man. Never give up, and keep your head high.
