We recently connected with Charles Ivy and have shared our conversation below.
Charles, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
My confidence and self-esteem weren’t something I had to build; they developed naturally once I realized my ability to connect with people on an individual level.
This realization was a turning point in my life. I discovered that when I genuinely listened to others and made them feel heard and understood, my own sense of self-worth grew. The more I focused on building authentic, one-on-one connections, the less I worried about external validation or superficial measures of success.
For example, I found that my value didn’t come from being the smartest, funniest, or most impressive person in a room. It came from being present with others. When I could make someone laugh, offer a word of comfort, or show up for them, I felt a deep sense of purpose. This wasn’t about trying to be a “people-pleaser,” but about genuinely appreciating the unique stories and perspectives of the people around me.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a marketing professional with 25 years of experience in the arts and design industry. My career has focused on leadership, brand building, and creative strategy, and I’ve found a special passion in bringing a brand’s story to life across various platforms, both digital and print. I find it incredibly exciting to craft a comprehensive brand identity, from the ground up, that truly resonates with its audience.
Currently, I serve as the Marketing Director for a multistate law firm and also work as the Social Media Manager & Web Designer for Search 185 Podcast. In a prior role, I also had the entrepreneurial experience of being the CEO and Founder of EnvyInk, Inc. Over the years, I have worked with a diverse range of clients and projects, which has allowed me to develop a wide array of technical proficiencies, including tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, BeePro, Canva, eLeads, LiquidFire OS, LiquidPixels, Magento eCommerce, Microsoft Office, Oracle Bronto, Webflow, WordPress, Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs), Google Analytics and Google My Business.
What I’d like people to know about my brand is that it’s built on a foundation of creativity, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of what makes a brand special. I believe in the power of an authentic narrative and the importance of connecting with people on a personal level through effective and thoughtful design. I don’t have any specific new events or launches to announce at this time, but I am always looking for the next creative challenge to tackle.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Start by leading yourself. Be accountable for your own work and commitments, and always show up ready to contribute. Pay attention to how great leaders you admire communicate and motivate their teams. Look for small opportunities to step up, whether it’s volunteering to lead a small project or mentoring a junior colleague.
Additionally, my biggest piece of advice here is to be relentlessly curious. Don’t limit yourself to your own discipline. Read about everything: technology, art history, consumer psychology, or even an unrelated industry. The most impactful creative strategies are often born from unexpected connections and a deep understanding of the world around you. The more you know, the more interesting your ideas will be.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I’ve learned to view my missteps not as failures, but as essential parts of my journey. Instead of dwelling on regret, I’ve started to see each mistake as a lesson in disguise, guiding me toward a deeper understanding of myself and my purpose. This shift in perspective has been incredibly freeing.
My spirituality has been the key to this transformation. Through daily practice, I’ve found a sense of peace that transcends the outcome of any single action. I now trust that even when things don’t go as planned, there’s a higher purpose at work. This trust has allowed me to release my need for perfection and embrace my human experience with more grace.
Ultimately, by making peace with my imperfections, I’ve found a stronger, more resilient sense of self. It’s not about avoiding mistakes, but about learning to grow from them and continuing my journey with an open heart.
