We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Charles Ragucci. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Charles below.
Charles, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
First, let me say that I am truly honored to featured in Bold Journey. I keep my creativity alive by staying deeply connected to the world around me, and nature plays a huge role in that. Whether it’s the peacefulness of the local lake or trail in the fall or the surprise of photographing wildlife at my local wildlife refuge, I find that immersing myself in natural environments sparks new ideas and helps me see beauty in all the details.
At the same time, my hometown of Philadelphia is a constant source of inspiration. The city’s rich history, iconic architecture, and evolving skyline fuel my creativity. Walking through neighborhoods like Center City or Old City reminds me of the stories embedded in every corner, while the blend of historical landmarks and modern skyscrapers reflects a dynamic energy that I try to bring into my work.
For anyone searching for ways to keep their creativity alive, my advice is to embrace curiosity and explore what excites you. Surround yourself with inspiration, whether through nature, art, or people who challenge your perspective. Step outside your comfort zone and try something new—you never know where it might lead you. And most importantly, always remember this: “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My journey with photography began when I was 14 or 15, after purchasing my first 35mm camera. I was captivated by the ability to freeze moments in time, whether it was capturing my family or the world around me. Shortly after, I picked up an 8mm film camera, which expanded my love for visual storytelling and led me to explore photography further in college. From that moment, I was hooked.
I eventually turned professional, specializing in weddings and portrait photography for a number of years. While I loved capturing those moments for others, I eventually felt the need to step away from the professional side and reconnect with photography for myself. That decision led me to where I am today—fully immersed in landscape and wildlife photography. There’s something deeply rewarding about capturing the raw beauty of nature, whether it’s a breathtaking landscape or a rare wildlife moment. I am proud to be a published photographer in this area, and photography remains a major part of my life.
Beyond photography, I also work for a nonprofit workforce development board in Philadelphia, where I manage their learning management system. This work is incredibly fulfilling because it allows me to help career seekers build core competencies and strengthen their skills, ultimately empowering them to grow professionally.
Photography and my nonprofit work might seem like different worlds, but both are driven by a passion for storytelling and helping people see new possibilities—whether through a career opportunity or through the lens of a camera. My journey is constantly evolving, and I’m excited to continue capturing the world around me while making an impact in my community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, three key qualities have been most impactful: curiosity, patience, and adaptability.
Curiosity was what first drew me to photography. From the moment I picked up my 35mm camera as a teenager, I wanted to explore and capture the world around me. That same curiosity led me to experiment with 8mm film, dive into professional photography, and eventually shift my focus to landscapes and wildlife. For anyone starting out, my advice is to stay curious—don’t be afraid to explore different subjects, techniques, or styles. The more you experiment, the more you’ll discover what truly inspires you.
Patience has been essential, especially in wildlife and landscape photography. Some of my most rewarding shots have come from waiting for the right light, the right movement, or the right moment. The same applies to personal and professional growth—things don’t happen overnight. If you’re just starting your journey, embrace the process, be patient with yourself, and allow your skills to develop naturally over time.
Adaptability has played a big role in my journey as well. I transitioned from film to digital, from professional portraiture to personal artistic exploration, and even in my nonprofit work, I’ve learned to adjust to new challenges. The ability to evolve and embrace change has helped me grow both creatively and professionally. For those early in their journey, my advice is to stay open to new opportunities and challenges—you never know where they might lead you.
No matter where you are in your journey, always remember: “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was allowing me to be myself—giving me the freedom to explore, learn, and grow while always being there as a source of guidance and support. They never tried to mold me into something I wasn’t instead, they encouraged my curiosity and creativity, letting me discover my path at my own pace.
From the moment I picked up my first 35mm camera, they supported my passion for photography, never questioning my interests or pushing me in a different direction. They allowed me to take risks, to experience both successes and failures, and to learn valuable lessons along the way. That freedom helped shape who I am today—not just as a photographer, but as someone who approaches life with an open mind and a willingness to explore new possibilities.
At the same time, I always knew they were there when I needed them. Whether it was advice, encouragement, or simply knowing I had a strong foundation to fall back on, their presence was unwavering. That balance of independence and support gave me the confidence to pursue my passions fearlessly.
Looking back, I realize how much of a gift that was. It taught me resilience, self-trust, and the importance of embracing the journey—wherever it may lead.
