We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Charli Terry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Charli below.
Charli, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is a difficult feat, especially as a new and upcoming name in your industry. There is no amount of knowledge that can prepare you for when you are standing in the room with people who are at the top of your field. Something that I do before I even leave the house is remind myself that hard work pays off. Most of the people that have the success you desire, started as the underdog. So as long as I keep that in mind, my comparison mindset silences and helps me navigate the room with more confidence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am an up-and-coming media & event curator. I absolutely love the diversity that this field provides. The people I meet, the opportunities I get, and the endless stream of support I get from the community makes this worth it.
I have two projects going on right now actually. One named “Just Breathe” which is a 7 series yoga event in partnership with a wellness company. I also have an event coming up called Shop The City that’s going to highlight the local fashion industry.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three things that directly impact me and my goals the most are confidence, networking, and consistency. Though I’ve travelled often and had to start over often, I’ve found that these three things amongst others are the most effective when getting a good start. Confidence being the foundation to all of these things of course, is the best compliment to your outfit. You gain confidence by studying your craft, and being around people that share your goal. When you’re confident, people will be drawn to you, therefore networking comes easily. Consistency is the hardest because it’s calling you to show up for yourself, rain or shine. Sometimes that’s not what we’re always in the mood for, but it has a high pay off and helps with building strategy and confidence.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The Alchemist is my absolute favorite book to draw inspiration and wisdom. If you know you know! I always go back to that story when I question my purpose, and I’m in need of guidance. It speaks about personal legends, and how everything in the universe conspires to help you reach your goal.
