We recently connected with Charlicia Harper and have shared our conversation below.
Charlicia, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my basketball history. I played the game of basketball every since I was about 6 years old. My father kept me in the gym with my three brothers, alongside the rest of our military community. Growing up a military child, our mentality always had to be different. We went 100% at everything we did, and our parents made sure of it. Then once I got older, and had different coaches teaching me, they instilled that same mentality. Go hard, or go home! If I wanted to make it to a high level, I had to put in the work. Therefore, I did everything I could to earn a basketball scholarship, in which I did to the University of Kansas. The work ethic from basketball, carried over into my everyday life; and I’m so grateful for the game.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I go by CeCe, and most recently CeTheChef. I do have a catering business where I serve large and small events, weddings, meal preparations, and private dining. Additionally, I host give back events, in which we serve those whom have found themselves homeless. My business stated in 2020 during the COVID season, and has remained solid since. However, I also am a Counselor 16-24 year old at risk youth. I assist in their citizenship, educational needs, career needs,
driver licenses, mental health services, etc. My sole focus is to guide these young adults in a manner that leads to their continued success.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most qualities to success are resiliency, integrity, and faith. Having the will power and mental strength to keep going when things aren’t going as planned, and or fall apart. The integrity to continue to move with morals, values, and ethics at the forefront. Do not sacrifice good character to reach success. Also, having faith in the Lord, or whomever you serves, alongside faith in self.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me is instill in me a, “Harper’s Dont Quit” mentality, as well as provide an active lifestyle. Sports shaped me into who I am today, and molded me mentally. I am able to navigate obstacles, overcome objections, and move past “failures” with a positive mindset. Mental strength and emotional intelligence is so important.
