Charnise Love, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I get my work ethic from the incredible women who influenced my life, starting with my mother. From a young age, I watched her work tirelessly to provide for my sister and me, instilling in me the importance of hard work and determination. She taught me the value of putting in the effort to bring my visions to life. I was also blessed to have strong women in my life who not only worked hard but also put God first in everything they did. Their example inspired me to do the same when building YOU FOR GOD. Once I committed to the vision and partnered with God for all the details, I understood it would require dedication and effort. My faith has been my anchor, especially during moments when I felt like I couldn’t keep going.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a God-centered entrepreneur and the founder of YOU FOR GOD, the number-one faith-based clothing brand in Los Angeles. Our brand is designed for those who desire to seek God on a deeper level. At YOU FOR GOD, we believe a brand is more than what you wear—it’s a lifestyle you choose to live. Each piece is manufactured in-house to deliver comfortable, high-quality wear for God’s children.

The vision behind YOU FOR GOD was born out of a pivotal encounter with God during a crossroads in my faith. I found myself questioning my purpose, distanced from my church, and entangled in a relationship that did not glorify God. Through that season, God allowed my heart to break so I could fully realize that no man, no job, and no earthly connection could ever replace His love for me. In that moment of surrender, He gave me Romans 8:31: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” That verse became my anchor, a reminder that God will always stand by my side.

This message is at the heart of YOU FOR GOD. We want every person who wears YFG to remember that God is always for them, no matter what challenges they face in this world. It’s more than clothing—it’s a constant reminder of His unwavering love and presence.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, I believe three qualities were most impactful in my journey: my creative mindset, bold personality, and business skillset. These traits allowed me to thrive with YOU FOR GOD and overcome the fear of making mistakes. Additionally, understanding my target audience and identifying how I could help them bridge their relationship with God through clothing was pivotal to the brand’s success.

For those starting a clothing brand—or any business—my advice is to reflect deeply on three key questions:

What is my purpose behind creating this idea?
Am I willing to serve the people around me?
Am I doing this purely for financial gain, or is there a greater purpose behind it?
It’s important to understand that being a leader or a “boss” is ultimately about servitude. Success is not just about creating a product or making money; it’s about serving others and making a meaningful impact through your work.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents—and my family as a whole—did for me was allow me to fail forward. They stood beside me, ready to support me, and behind me, ready to catch me if I strayed too far off course. They believed in my vision and wholeheartedly supported what God had given me.

The greatest gift my family has given me, and continues to give, is their prayers. They pray for me, send me resources to help expand my business, and generously offer their time to lend a helping hand. I’m forever grateful for their unwavering support. They also take the time to listen to my thoughts and ideas, which, to me, is one of the most meaningful ways they show their love and belief in what I’m building
