We were lucky to catch up with Charra Post recently and have shared our conversation below.
Charra, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
Self-care is at the core of everything I do—not just personally, but professionally. In fact, I’ve redefined self-care entirely through my work, coining the phrase “True Self Care” and building my company, The Self Care Movement, around it. To me, True Self Care goes far beyond surface-level practices like hygiene or the occasional massage. It’s about committing to deep inner healing—the kind that builds a foundation for true success and freedom.
True Self Care means learning to love yourself unconditionally and setting boundaries that honor your well-being. It’s nervous system regulation, where you move from stress and survival mode into a state of calm, grounded presence. It’s about accepting all parts of yourself—the messy, the raw, the vulnerable—and embracing them with compassion. It’s forgiveness, self-leadership, and embodiment. When you prioritize your own healing, you cultivate a foundation of self-worth that radiates into every aspect of your life.
By consistently prioritizing my self-care, my effectiveness has soared. Essentially, I’m filling my own cup first so that I can give from the overflow. When my cup is full, I’m a better mom, a more present and intuitive coach, a stronger leader, and an inspired business owner. I show up with energy, resilience, and a clear mind. I listen more deeply, connect more genuinely, and lead with authenticity. When I take care of myself and nurture my energy, I operate from a state of flow rather than a state of overwhelm—and that makes all the difference in the world.
One of my favorite self-care practices is breathwork. I start most mornings with a quick, yet powerful, breathwork routine that lasts about 10 minutes. It’s essential to do it before picking up my phone or diving into work. This practice connects me to my intuition, helps me check in with my body, and gives me the opportunity to shift my state before I start my day. It’s a way to anchor myself, regulate my nervous system, and make intentional choices rather than reacting to stress. Starting my day this way not only grounds me, but it also sets the tone for being aligned, clear-headed, and open to whatever comes my way.
In the end, True Self Care isn’t just something I practice—it’s a way of being. It’s the choice to honor my own needs so that I can give the best of myself to my family, clients, and community. And that, ultimately, is the key to both personal fulfillment and professional effectiveness.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m the founder of The Self Care Movement, where my mission is to help women build an unshakable foundation of self-worth through deep inner healing. My journey started as a Dietitian over 18 years ago, but I quickly realized that focusing solely on diet was like putting a band-aid over a deeper wound. Real, lasting change requires healing at the root—addressing the subconscious beliefs and emotional patterns that hold us back. That’s where my passion for True Self Care was born.
True Self Care goes beyond just doing nice things for ourselves—it’s about committing to our healing and personal growth. It’s about cultivating self-love, transforming limiting beliefs, and moving from a state of survival to a state of flow. I believe that when we focus on healing ourselves first, we naturally become more successful, confident, and aligned in our lives and businesses.
Today, I offer both 1:1 mentorship and group coaching, helping heart-centered women—particularly entrepreneurs—prioritize their own well-being so they can make a greater impact without burnout. My work is rooted in somatic practices, NLP, nervous system regulation, and emotional mastery, guiding clients to embrace their worth and let success flow effortlessly.
One of the most exciting aspects of my work right now is my signature program: The Self-Care Revolution: 21 Days to Renew Your Inner World and Allow Success to Flow with Ease. This challenge is a transformational journey designed to help women reconnect with their inner power, shift their mindset, and break free from patterns of overwhelm. Through daily practices and guided inner work, participants learn how to align their energy with their vision, allowing abundance to flow naturally.
The next round of the challenge kicks off on May 5th, and I’m so excited to guide another group of incredible women through this journey. Whether you’re looking to deepen your self-worth, enhance your confidence, or simply feel more at ease in your daily life, this challenge is a powerful way to create lasting change. At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to helping women heal, evolve, and step into their fullest potential. True Self Care isn’t just a practice—it’s a lifestyle, a way of being that transforms not only how you show up for yourself but also how you show up for the world.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
One of the biggest game-changers in my personal and professional journey has been learning to create safety within my body. When our nervous system feels safe, we can think clearly, make aligned decisions, and show up as our best selves. One simple yet powerful way to do this is by imagining a protective layer around you—something that feels comforting and secure. It could be a soft, shimmering bubble that encases you, a sturdy shield that blocks out stress, a warm, cozy blanket that wraps you in comfort, or even a Harry Potter-style invisibility cloak that makes you feel untouchable by outside pressure. Whatever shows up for you is perfect, as long as it helps you feel safe. Really tune into what it looks like, what it feels like, and how it moves with you. As you do this, notice how your body begins to relax. Deepening the experience with slow belly breathing enhances the feeling of safety, grounding you and allowing you to show up with more confidence and presence. My advice to anyone starting out is to make this practice a daily ritual. Even just a few minutes of connecting with that feeling of safety can create a profound shift.
Another crucial insight was understanding the concept of subconscious self-sabotage. Often, our nervous system tries to protect us by keeping us in familiar patterns—even if those patterns don’t serve us. When we start to expand, grow, or try something new, our system may interpret that as a threat, causing us to self-sabotage. The key here is not to resist or shame yourself when it happens. Instead, notice it with compassion. Give yourself so much love and acceptance in those moments. The vibration of love naturally moves you forward, while the vibration of guilt or shame will keep you stuck. The more you practice accepting your humanity, the easier it becomes to move through these moments without judgment. If you’re just beginning your journey, remind yourself that setbacks are a normal part of growth—and they’re opportunities to deepen your self-compassion.
Finally, one of the most transformative practices for me has been celebrating small wins—and the big ones, too. It’s so easy to get caught up in what we didn’t accomplish or where we fell short, but this mindset only fuels self-doubt. Instead, at the end of each day, make a list of everything you accomplished. It could be the big things from your to-do list or simple acts of self-care, like brushing your teeth or making a nourishing meal. You’ll probably find that the list is much longer than you expected! This practice shifts your mindset from feeling like you’re not doing enough to recognizing just how much you’re showing up. Amplify this celebration by jumping up and down, dancing, or just telling yourself how amazing you are. Allow yourself to fully feel the pride and joy of acknowledging your efforts.
For anyone on their own journey, my advice is to create safety within yourself, embrace your human moments with love, and make celebrating your progress a daily ritual. These practices not only build resilience but also help you stay connected to your inner power—no matter what challenges arise.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
Go all in on your strengths. Or better yet, go all in on the things that bring you the most joy, fulfillment, and make you feel like you’re making an impact. When we focus on the areas that light us up, we naturally step into a state of flow. We move quickly, with ease, and we feel more confident and aligned. This not only makes us more effective, but it also allows us to have a greater impact on others.
On the other hand, if we’re constantly trying to improve areas that don’t come naturally or that don’t excite us, we often find ourselves stuck in frustration, fatigue, and even burnout. It’s not that challenging ourselves or stepping out of our comfort zone isn’t important—it absolutely is. But I believe that growth should come from leaning into our gifts first, rather than forcing ourselves to become well-rounded in areas that drain us.
One example from my own journey is when I first started out as a dietitian. I was passionate about helping people, but I quickly realized that focusing solely on nutrition and meal plans felt limiting to me. I wasn’t thriving in that space, and it showed in my energy and enthusiasm. I found myself feeling drained because I wasn’t utilizing the deeper mindset and healing skills that truly lit me up. When I began integrating mindset work, somatic practices, and nervous system regulation into my approach, everything changed. I was more inspired, more impactful, and my clients experienced deeper transformations.
Now, I spend most of my time and energy on the areas that truly matter to me: guiding women through deep inner work, emotional mastery, and self-worth transformation. This doesn’t mean I avoid challenges—in fact, the work I do often pushes me to grow in new ways—but it’s rooted in my strengths and my passion, not in trying to fit into a mold that doesn’t feel true to me.
My advice is this: Instead of spreading yourself thin trying to be good at everything, focus on what you naturally excel at and what brings you the most joy. Use your strengths as the foundation, and from there, you can challenge yourself to expand, grow, and take on new skills. When you prioritize your gifts, you’re more likely to thrive—and you’ll make a bigger impact while doing it.
