We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chase Lloyd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chase , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I discovered my passion for storytelling and the written word at the young age of seven. I recall spending hours putting pencil to paper, dreaming up imaginative scenarios and crafting them into tales. This not only served as a creative outlet, but helped my introspective child self process the world around me. I further cultivated my talent throughout my academic career, earning top marks on writing assignments. I went on to graduate from Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s in English (Creative Writing), combining my love of language with the ability to invent compelling narratives. After honing my skills writing the first season of my debut TV series, which has also been adapted into a book, that is currently in publication; I doubled down on my lifelong calling. I strive to inspire other young creatives to find their voices through writing. I also aspire to promote youth art by launching a museum showcasing talented young artists across cultures. At my core, I believe in the transformational power stories hold – much like reading transported me to new worlds growing up. As an emerging screenwriter, the complex characters and twisting plots that fill my imagination are now poised to reach wider audiences. I plan to continue perfecting my creative writing while producing inspiring projects.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
From the moment I crafted my first stories around age 7, I knew I wanted to transform imagination into art on screens both big and small. Born in Louisville, I cultivated a voracious love of writing and film that led me to earn a BA in Creative Writing from Eastern Kentucky University.
In 2018, I signed with Virtuous Thoughts Management to actively pursue my acting ambitions. Since then, I have landed guest starring TV roles while continuing to hone my craft through intensive workshops. But my truest passion lies behind the camera, using my screenwriting talents to give life to complex characters and twisting plots.
I’m inspired to write across genres from nuanced dramas to laugh-out-loud comedies. My colorful Kentucky upbringing, paired with observations from my own entertaining adventures, often manifest on the page. I aspire to apply everything learned on inspiring sets when creating, producing, directing and starring in my own original series or indie feature one day. Every time the fade in intro hits, I’m reminded of the 7-year-old version of myself, scribbling stories by flashlight long after bedtime. Though the mediums change, my commitment to the craft and love for visual storytelling remain as constant as ever. Wherever the journey takes me next, I’ll continue to pursue my filmmaking and writing dreams, word by word and frame by frame.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The number one thing I would say has been very impactful, is having an open mind. As a creator, be open to other possibilities. I say that because I know that a lot of the time, as creators, we can get tunnel vision and locked in on one particular thing. But, over the years, I’ve learned. that keeping an open mind, can lead to some amazing opportunities you would’ve never dreamed of. I would also say, that working on your craft, each and every day is vital. Even if it’s just a paragraph, I’m doing something that’s helping me on my journey to mastering my craft.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The one book that has been the most impactful and life changing for me, has been “Total Freedom” by Jiddu Krishnamurti. I would encourage anyone, to pick this book up and give it a read.
