We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chasity Kennedy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chasity below.
Chasity, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
When I think about where my resilience comes from, I realize it’s rooted in the strength of those who came before me and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. I get it from watching my parents, who are both entrepreneurs, overcome challenges with grace and determination and from the times I’ve fallen but refused to stay down.
It comes from knowing that every setback has shaped me, every trial has taught me, and every moment of doubt has only fueled my desire to keep pushing forward. Resilience, for me, is a mix of faith, self-belief, and the understanding that I am capable of turning struggles into stepping stones.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
In 2019, I gave life to Chasity Aniece Productions, a vision born from my passion for storytelling, creativity, and the beauty of collaboration. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with countless talented creatives, producing bi-annual events that celebrate artistry and self-expression.
Our mission is to celebrate individuality, showcase diversity, and spark conversations through creative concepts, and innovative designs. Whether it’s a fashion production or an editorial film, we aim to leave a lasting impact on our audience, highlighting the power and beauty of community and heritage.
At Chasity Aniece Productions, we’re not just producing events, we’re shaping narratives and setting new standards in the industry.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three key qualities have been instrumental in my journey: resilience, adaptability, and vision.
1. Resilience: The ability to keep going, even when faced with obstacles, has been my foundation. Challenges are inevitable, but what matters is how you navigate them. For anyone starting out, I’d say embrace the setbacks, they’re opportunities in disguise. Build a mindset that sees failure as a stepping stone rather than a roadblock.
2. Adaptability: The creative world is ever-changing, and staying open to new ideas, methods, and trends has been crucial. It’s important to stay curious and willing to learn. Whether it’s picking up new skills, rethinking a plan, or embracing a completely different approach, adaptability will keep you relevant and ahead. To develop this, challenge yourself to step outside your comfort zone and embrace change as a part of growth.
3. Vision: Having a clear sense of purpose and direction has guided everything I do. It’s not just about what I create but why I’m creating it. For those early in their journey, take the time to define your “why”, your reason for pursuing your path. Let that vision anchor you when things get overwhelming, and use it to inspire the work you do.
Above all, don’t rush the process. Growth takes time, and every step is part of the story you’re building. Trust yourself, stay focused, and surround yourself with people who uplift and challenge you. Your journey is uniquely yours, so own it.
Do you think it’s better to go all in on our strengths or to try to be more well-rounded by investing effort on improving areas you aren’t as strong in?
I believe the key is a balance: go all in on your strengths while still being intentional about improving areas where you’re less strong. Your strengths are what make you unique and allow you to shine, but working on your weaker areas can make you more versatile and prepared for unexpected challenges.
For me, leaning into my strengths, like leadership and artistic expression, has been the driving force behind Chasity Aniece Productions. These are the areas where I feel most confident and capable, and they’ve allowed me to build a brand that reflects my vision. However, I quickly realized that areas I wasn’t as strong in, like timing, couldn’t be ignored. Early in my journey, I faced challenges because I avoided those areas, and it taught me that neglecting your weak spots can become a barrier to growth.
A specific example comes from my first production. I had a clear vision for the creative aspects but underestimated the importance of timing and having too many acts. Though the show was a success, I realized I needed to adjust and improve in that area.
The lesson I’ve learned is that your strengths are where you should pour most of your energy because they’re your superpower. But don’t let your weaknesses hold you back, address them enough to complement your strengths or find people who excel where you don’t. Success is a team effort, and knowing when to focus on yourself and when to ask for help is a skill in itself.
