We recently connected with Chazzy Productions and have shared our conversation below.
Chazzy , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
My looks definitely made it more of a challenge to be successful in the film industry, compared to the average person. Especially when I first got my dreadlocks. My best way of overcoming this challenge was just by being my true self and letting my talent do the talking. I never tried to pretend to be somebody I’m not and once I showed others my production and editing work, my business took off fast from there!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My favorite hobby is traveling. Exploring different sceneries is always fun to me! I also love to spend time with my family when I’m not doing any editing work.
Videography started off as a hobby. I used to edit dance videos for fun when I was a kid. I later decided to get my first professional camera in college. It was a cheap Nikon from Wal-Mart. My talent didn’t get un-noticed, people started begging me to shoot their videos and even offering me money. Ever since then I turned what I love to do into my full-time career.
At the moment I’ve been focused on making all my clients happy. I have been shooting a lot of wedding and music videos. I do have a lot of plans coming up for the near future. I will soon be working on a short film. I will also start to release skits, content, documentaries, and more! Make sure to subscribe to my YouTube “Chazzy Productions” to see what I have in store coming soon!
The most exciting part about my job is putting a smile on someone’s face. It’s always the best feeling seeing your client watch the video you made and see them shed a tear of joy. I love when someone appreciates what I created for them!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
One important skill to have that has nothing to do with videography is professionalism. If you are well-spoken, respectful/nice, and know what you’re talking about, that alone will get you more clients. A consumer of a product will always want to buy from someone that is smart that they can trust. Two other skills that were important is editing and knowing how to work a camera.
If you are first starting out in this industry, my best advice is to network heavy and make sure to start shooting videos you have fun doing immediately. Their are a lot of different niches in this industry and you might enjoy shooting a football game more then a wedding.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I’m always looking to collaborate with others. If you’re an artist, model/actor, content creator, or even someone just starting out, send me a message on instagram (@ChazzyProduction) for a faster response.
