Cheeko, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Well your never really the only one in the room , are you ? Life is a stage and the variables of life are the real competition. I don’t compete with people I compete with myself knowing I have to be better today then I was yesterday In doing so you still manage to find yourself racing against the clock, day vs. night, brain vs. heart, and intellect vs. wit !! For me I keep things simple and I think of what could I do that has yet to be done or maybe what I haven’t done yet then I get creative. For me I’m always the only one that looks like this and that allows for my ora to shine bright. No matter the situation people can see and smell confidence and I have a heavy glow but it comes from faith and belief with just a hint of ego. I’m able to take a no like a yes and I’m confident enough to fail knowing I can still prevail , now this is how I’ve gained success

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
For starters I was recently shot 8 times in a road rage incident along highway 285 west bound . I actually started to chase my shooter until I blacked out on the road fell into an unconscious state , regained conciousness only to wake up to a blood bath and was able to find my phone and call myself an ambulance . During my time in the hospital inbetween 2 surgeries I was able to conduct a photoshoot , record music and even shoot a music video . The first surgery was to get the artery in my left arm situated this took place as soon as I was wheeled in to Grady hospital. My brother and best friend (David Appel @appeljax84) of 29 years immediately flew in from Miami to assist in my time of need but also heard me say bring that camera . For me I’ve learned to take negatives and turn them positives, take wins out of losses and able to conquer when it seems I may have been conquered. We recorded a freestyle record called “8” referring to the times I was shot and the song that inspired that was “put it on the floor” produced by go grizzly and performed by latto.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me and to others it’s gotta be will , ambition and faith plus work .. Your will to do something or become the person you set out to be has to be true and strong knowing that what your doing makes sense maybe not to others but to your self . Your ambition will be like your fuel or gas it what will drive the vessel and faith plus work is like the key to get in your car and the gas pedal knowing that if you have genuine faith and apply yourself everything will work itself out in your favor … it may not happen when you want it to but it will happen!
