We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chef!. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with chef! below.
Chef!, thank you so much for making time for us today. We’re excited to discuss a handful of topics with you, but perhaps the most important one is around decision making. The ability to make decisions is a key requirement for anyone who wants to make a difference and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your decision-making skills.
By making decisions.
Obvious, right? Although it may seem redundant, this specific point flies over the heads of most; the only way to improve a muscle is to exercise it! Many of my peers/generation seem to have problems committing to the decisions they make- even further, it seems as if a lot of people are adverse to making decisions at all! So many things are decided FOR us that we have surrendered our self autonomy. Gaining that back is simple; move on your own accord.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
C.A.M.P (Come And Make Peace) is a multidisciplinary arts & entertainment project, aimed at bridging the gap between creators and the resources necessary to cultivate creativity. We offer a variety of services to artists, such as photography, graphic design, event organizing and even creative consulting. Our annual CAMP + FRIENDS music showcase provides a platform for local musicians to perform to new ears, while connecting creators with one another, blossoming into new networks throughout the community.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Social Awareness: The ability to read the room & the faces of those around you. Hand in hand with emotional intelligence, developing this skill is necessary to connect with people properly and effectively!
2. Discipline: Probably the most important aspect one must develop. Not every part of the journey is fun; will you persist through, doing the things that are necessary to move forward?
3. Authenticity: People can smell your posturing from a mile away, and they hate it. As much as you may be pretending for an imaginary audience, the REAL people in front of you are immediately turned off by the mask you put on for them. You can’t please everyone- be yourself.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
“ Briefly, the law of limited competition is this: You may compete to the full extent of your capabilities, but you may not hunt down your competitors or destroy their food or deny them access to food. In other words, you may compete but you may not wage war on your competitors.”
