Meet Chef DeeJay Ferguson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chef DeeJay Ferguson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Chef DeeJay , we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hops that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Having anxiety and depression, I often struggle with feeling like I’m not good enough and feeling like I’m overlooked and underrated. What I’ve found out though, is that I was spending too much time comparing myself to others I thought, were more “successful” than me.
Crazy thing is, I’ve been learning that success is self defined, and I see myself as successful despite who may have more or may be where I hope to be.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Chef Wyze Food Services is an experience more than it is a business. We pride ourselves in giving people an amazing culinary experience specifically tailored to their tastes and needs. We can do ANY style of cuisine and love to be challenged.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience. Self-Motivation. Discipline. These elements have shaped how I go for things.
Advice I’ve given to people starting their journey? Stay true to yourself, the journey you are on is for YOU. Don’t get so caught up in what others are doing and compare yourself to that. Comparison is the thief of joy. Above all else, you got this!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always down for a collab! I love learning and wholeheartedly believe that I can learn from anyone and it can only make me better as a Chef. I just like to connect with genuine people who have a TRUE passion for what we do.
