Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chef Grubb. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Chef , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethics from my parents. This is why I will always consider myself an old school traditional girl. My father and mother both migrated from Jamaica and made a living and worked hard to provide for their children. We have a saying in Jamaica “if you want good your nose have to run” although I can’t say I come from a life of struggle, my parents definitely worked hard to show us we have to work hard for things we want out of life. I work very hard and put my all into my cooking
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am entrepreneur of 7 years and stepped into the culinary world in 2018 on accident! Although nothing is an accident and I believe in the most high, my Lord and savior I never thought I would be a chef and cooking and traveling doing this. My son posted a dish I made, Rasta pasta and it went viral on Twitter getting 1.5 million views. People began reaching out to order food and that’s how the business was started.
I was a nurse full time when this business started and I didn’t take the catering part seriously. Until I worked my
Last job. In November 2019 and went full time with my business by becoming obedient to what the lord called me to do.
7 years later it’s been a learning experience and I’m still learning but I’ve grown a passion for the business and love what I do.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three things that helped me through my journey was my faith in the Lord. A lot of times when I didn’t know where the money would come from he sent strangers!
The clients who support my business without them I wouldn’t still be in business years later and my daughter Kymmy who has helped me on the assist and learning how to make things in kitchen and her know from
Culinary class when she was a hs student
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Inflation! Look at the cost of eggs lol. A lot of my clients who are my fie hard ride or die clients who use to throw money at me, I see the Impact it has on them as well. So now I have to cut corners and raise prices with some of my dishes.
