Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chef Rose. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Chef, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My work ethic comes from my Jamaican roots and the strong influence of my family. Growing up, I watched my mother raise 8 of us on her own, working around the clock without asking for help. Her determination and resilience inspired me. Additionally, my grandfather, who was blind, would get up every morning to feed his pigs and animals and take care of himself. Seeing him work despite his disability taught me the importance of finding efficient ways to get things done. These experiences have instilled in me a strong work ethic, and I believe that when you work smart, you can achieve more without burning out. By working efficiently and effectively, I’m able to deliver the best experience for my clients at Cheffield Jamaican cuisine, and I’m inspired to continue pushing forward with energy and relentless passion.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Our brand is built on quality, authenticity, and community, and I’m eager to share that with the world. Through this article, I hope to connect with our target audience and showcase the unique flavors and culture of Jamaica.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Wow, looking back, I believe the three most important qualities for success are attention to details especially with numbers, adaptability, and innovation. However, it’s equally important to have a clear understanding of your goals and direction. Without a map, it’s challenging to navigate the journey. Understanding numbers is crucial, regardless of your product or business model. It’s essential to have financial literacy to make informed decisions, scale your business, and navigate slow periods. Adaptability is also vital, as change is inevitable. During the pandemic, I had to adapt quickly, reinvent our menu, and innovate to survive. Maintaining authenticity was key, and it required bold decisions. Knowing your numbers, being adaptable, and innovating are essential skills for navigating uncertainty and achieving success. But it’s the clear vision and direction that allows you to leverage these qualities effectively and stay focused on your goals.
What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I think it’s essential to strike a balance between leveraging strengths and improving weaknesses. Focusing solely on strengths can lead to expertise, but neglecting weaknesses can create vulnerabilities. On the other hand, trying to be well-rounded by improving weaknesses can enhance overall performance and adaptability. My experience with Gourmet Chef On Tour & 4 cafes and Cheffield Jamaican Cuisine taught me that acknowledging and working on weaknesses, such as financial management, was crucial for long-term success. By balancing my strengths (passion, creativity) with improved financial literacy and management, I created a more sustainable business. Ultimately, it’s about self-awareness, prioritization, and strategic effort. Identify your strengths and weaknesses, focus on leveraging strengths, and invest in improving weaknesses that significantly impact your long-term goals. Building a strong foundation requires discipline in all area including your personal life, long hours and working smart, and dedication – qualities that may be misunderstood by others as weaknesses (taking my kindness for weakness) but are essential for success. As I built my business, I always learned to prioritize long-term goals over short-term gains. With honest dedication money is easy to make. However, building a solid foundation to last for generations is not easy, and that is the obstacle. Challenging your strength because the foundation you’re building isn’t being seen by others, but you understand the assignment by implementing more dedication to stabilize that foundation to last for decades, even after I’m gone. This meant making sacrifices and staying focused on my vision, even when others didn’t understand my approach. By doing so, I’ve been able to perfect my craft and create a successful business that reflects my values and passion. The key is to stay committed to your goals and keep working towards them, even when faced with obstacles. With persistence and determination, you can build the strength and endurance needed to overcome “ANY” challenges and achieve 100% success.
