Meet Chelsea Christmas

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chelsea Christmas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea , you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity comes from the experiences that shaped me. I’ve known what it feels like to be overlooked, to not have access, to feel like there’s no room for you in certain spaces. So I lead and give from a place of wanting to create what I didn’t always have.

Whether it’s through fitness, community events, or just being present for someone, I genuinely believe in meeting people where they are. Generosity, to me, isn’t just about giving things—it’s about creating space, making people feel seen, and helping others feel strong in who they are. That’s the heart of everything I do with At Her Core Fitness.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

At Her Core Fitness started as a way for me to create the kind of wellness space I always wished existed—one that felt safe, affirming, and accessible, especially for women of color. It began with pop-up classes and community events and has now grown into a full brand that centers movement, empowerment, and joy.

What makes At Her Core special is that it’s not just about fitness. We lead with heart. The work we do is rooted in connection, community, and redefining what strength looks and feels like. It’s about showing up as you are and leaving stronger—not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too.

Right now, I’m focused on expanding our class offerings and introducing new membership options. We recently relaunched with a fresh energy, including themed strength classes like Thick & Fit and Powerhouse, plus a core-centered class called Centered & Strong. I also offer personal training and have started building out corporate wellness partnerships to reach more women where they are.

What’s next for At Her Core is building toward our first studio space and hosting our signature event, Fitness Together, this summer. We’re also planning to continue our pop-up events throughout the Lancaster community and beyond.

At the end of the day, I just want people—especially women who’ve felt left out of traditional fitness spaces—to know that they belong here. This work is about making room for joy, healing, and movement that feels good at the core.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, relationship building, and self-awareness.

Resilience has kept me going when things didn’t go as planned—whether that was navigating the end of partnerships, feeling unsupported, or having to start over. There were plenty of moments where I could’ve walked away, but choosing to keep showing up, even when it was hard, taught me more than any win ever could.

Relationship building has been huge. So much of what I’ve built through At Her Core Fitness has come from genuine connections. Whether it’s with clients, collaborators, or community partners, the relationships I’ve nurtured have helped create something that feels real and lasting.

And self-awareness has helped me grow in a way that feels aligned. I’ve had to be honest with myself about what’s working, what’s not, and what I actually want. That clarity helps me lead with intention, not just ambition.

For anyone early in their journey, I’d say this—don’t be afraid to slow down and reflect. Build your relationships with care, and don’t wait for confidence to start. Start with commitment. The rest will grow with you.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, I’m always open to connecting with folks who align with the mission and heart behind At Her Core Fitness. I’m especially interested in partnering with other wellness professionals, creatives, community organizers, and brands that value inclusivity, joy, and intentional movement. Whether it’s through hosting a pop-up event, creating a wellness experience, or building something new for our communities, I’m excited to collaborate with people who are doing meaningful work and want to make a real impact.

If you’re reading this and feel like we’d align, I’d love to hear from you. You can reach me directly through my website at www.athercorefitness.com or connect with me on Instagram @athercorefitness.
