We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chelsea Delahanty. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chelsea below.
Hi Chelsea, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I would have to say my work ethic came from my parents and being a single parent for years before meeting my husband. My parents separated at an early age and I watched my mother, as a single mother push herself to work and support us through anything. I also watched my father, as a single father do the same. They would work through stress, pain and sickness just so we had necessities. My father always said “Why stay home sick when I can get paid to be sick at work?” I myself now say that to my children! I take pride in having two parents that were so driven and still are. They instilled good, hard working morals that I will and have passed on.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Sure. Well first, I am a Mother of five beautiful children. I have my oldest graduating this May and my youngest turning one in September! I share a home in Gahanna, Ohio with my Husband and children. I love art, music and most importantly, spending time with my family. As a Social Media Marketer I provide my customers with the ability to reach an unlimited consumer base for their businesses. I do this by delving into their products or services offered. I also take the time to get myself acquainted with my customers. This is not just about my business but their personal goals as well. Once I become familiar and gather their insights, I carefully articulate engaging ads, videos/reels and interviews to sponsor along all Social media platforms. These pull their consumers in.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe being personable, more humble and being driven are probably the 3 most important things in being successful in this business. (I myself had to start my own business on Social Media & marketing was a huge part of that) As far as skills and/or knowledge; I have always possessed the skill of being creative and the knowledge of myself being a consumer. These are key points. Knowing when and where to target consumers as well. Creativity is a must as a Marketer, whether it is Social Media or another platform being used. You must be able to create something not only engaging but eye catching. My advice would be to any aspiring entrepreneur to do your homework; on both your interests and already established and successful business owners. And learn to take constructive criticism and learn from it! Most importantly, just because you weren’t successful one time does not mean you won’t be the next. You just have to be willing to take chances on YOURSELF. Just like anything in life, this is trail and error!
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client would definitely know what they wanted or the complete opposite & let me take control! But someone who is open to change, open to opinions and suggestions! I also love when I have a creative customer who wants to be just as involved as I am. It makes my job not only easier but more fun! Honestly, the most ideal client for me personally is, one who is willing to take a chance on a small business owner, an entrepreneur, on me.
