Chengmin(Michael), we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

As an artist, I don’t come from a music family but music have been inside my body since I was born. I’ve showed big interest in music since I was born according to my parents. I learnt piano since I was 4 and start singing, dancing, playing guitar…as I grow up. I feel that music is the cure of life, no matter I feel upset, angry, energetic, unmotivated…… I can always find relief in music and it’s the only thing I don’t get tired of as I grow up. Though I decide to pursue a full-time career as a musician at the age of 16, I was already passionate about listening, playing and making music and I know I’ll do it forever.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m Chengmin(Michael) Yu. My artist name is Mic__Yun(Same name on Spotify and Instagram..) I’m a singer/songwriter, music producer, arranger, pianist and guitarist. For the past few years I’ve been arranging/producing for others and working on my own songs. The main genre of my music would be R&B/Hiphop and Pop. Most of them delivering cozy, emotional, chill vibe on RnB music or groovy and energetic vibe on Hiphop music. I use my instagram account as a personal brand promotion, I will post my music and image that match my style irregularly. Also I post singing covers on my Tiktok account before. I don’t have too much music released yet because I’m working on two EP’s now and plan to release them by May. One is a Hiphop collaboration EP with my friend and the other one is mainly RnB. I plan to have 2-3 shows in NYC at April to perform these songs early to give the audience a teaser before they’re released but the exact time is not confirmed yet.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think discipline and consistency are significant in almost all the journeys. In order to become better and skillful, it takes time and consistent repetitive practice. It’s hard especially for people who engage any kind of art. Because we’re all start with interest in art and decide to pursue it as a full-time career. Once the interest goes down depending on your mood, you’ll be lazy and stop improving. So it’s important to have strict plans and discipline to consistently do it everyday no matter how you feel so you will improve day by day. Also, discipline and plans actually inspiring people more. When I compose music randomly without restraint, it’s relaxing but normally very ineffective. It’s sounds weird but when I have a some restriction and a deadline, I tend to be even more inspired and high-efficient. One more skills thats helpful would be doing meditation. People are dealing with too much things and pressure nowadays, a quick meditation will be calm, relaxing and help to find inner peace. I will meditate when I under big pressure or making important decision, it can help me to clear my mind.

I’m looking for anyone that have interesting and unique ideas to collaborate with, no matter you are an artist, musician, photographer/videographer, writer, designer, painter… I’m a artist and music producer who planning to release music, perform on stage and pursuing an artist’s career so I’d love to connect with anyone who doing anything related(or not related) to that.
