Meet Cherokee Johnson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cherokee Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Cherokee, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
I prove myself with my skills. Sometimes clients will come in and see my tattoos or my blue hair and I wonder if they question my professionalism or skills, but as soon as they lay in my bed and I start to go over their skin, I can feel that ease set in. I know that I am good at what I do and what I look like had no bearing on that!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My entire business is focused on making women feel relaxed and confident! Life is so stressful, and I love that people can come into my dark, cozy room and actually breathe and get relaxed enough to fall asleep. I also love helping people with skin concerns and insecurities. Confidence is something that is so lacking in general, but especially in women. No matter what new service I offer or new license I have choir, the goal is always confidence and relaxation.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Honestly, going to business school was immensely helpful. Although I work in personal services now, having that business mind has been invaluable. Knowing how to market myself and build my clientele without having to hire expensive help has been amazing. I always suggest people take at least a few business classes at their local community college, no matter what sector you work in!

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is one that trust me! Also clients that follow homecare are Goldstar clients. I’m always explaining to my clients that skin care is not a once a month process. To see real results, you have to do your homework!
