Meet Cheryl And Alaena Klages

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cheryl And Alaena Klages. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cheryl and Alaena below.

Hi Cheryl and Alaena , so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?

It can be challenging to push aside those negative comments. We found when opening our business most people that were saying we couldn’t do it were coming from a place of insecurity that they couldn’t do what we were trying. We were fortunate enough to have a very supportive inner circle. We did our best to amplify all those positive comments so when someone did come around with rude things to say we knew in our hearts that was just one persons opinion. It really comes down to believing in yourself and doing something you are truly passionate about. Without that passion its hard to push through the hard times.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

We are a mother/daughter own small-batch clothing company. We run a boutique in St. Peter MN with a focus on sustainability and ethically made clothing. Our focus is to educate the harm of fast fashion and how we can all consume more consciously. 90% of our clothing is made from all natural fiber material. A fun thing we just introduced into our store is up-cycled garments. We’ve had a lot of fun making jackets out of preloved quilts. In the future we hope to offer sewing classes to further the education in the community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Cheryl had a background in commercial arts and marketing. Knowledge of how to promote and advertise was helpful getting the word out about our new store. She came in with 30 years of alteration experience giving us solid creditability in the industry.
Alaena thrives in networking. She was the one that got into the rooms we needed to get into and made connections with other business owners and creatives.

Advice we would give is to know what you are good at and let that carry you. Don’t be embarrassed to tell everyone about what you are doing you don’t know who could have the next connection for you to make the next move. Taking someone out for coffee just to chat can be a game changer.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

Our ideal client is someone who loves fashion and cares about the environment. Loves to wear loud prints and make a statement with their clothing. Someone who thinks outside the box and isn’t afraid to take risks.
