We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chey Quigley a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chey, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I have always known I wanted to help others in my community. For years, I thought that would be through preventative healthcare, which I was very passionate about, until having a chance conversation with my realtor. She informed me that she had a passion for Jesus and healthy living, and she was able to share both of her passions through her job as a realtor without her career necessarily being tied to either of those callings. I slowly began to realize that I would be able to help our community prevent unnecessary chemical exposure and potential disease by providing non-toxic cleaning to our neighbors.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I own a non-toxic cleaning company. We started in April of 2023 as just me and one other person cleaning homes on the side, and have grown to four full time cleaners on our payroll with me focusing on business development and growth. We stand out in our field because of our dedication to our customer experience. We are not your average cleaning service, and go above and beyond by not only using products that are safe for our staff and clients, but we also clean more surfaces than your average house cleaners to ensure that our clients are satisfied with every cleaning.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
To me, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my business owner journey have been resourcefulness, tenacity, and flexibility. You never know what you will encounter next, or which part of your business plan will need to be revised as you go, and you have to be able to go with the flow and ask for help from trusted advisors. It helps to be close with other business owners, even if they are in a completely different field than you. An outside perspective can change everything.
For anyone entering their entrepreneurial journey, I would advise you not to assume you know everything (or anything for that matter!) No matter how much research you do and how many experts you learn from, you will make mistakes and you will start out with some practices that need to be tweaked. The sooner you get used to pivoting, the better.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My fiance has been crucial to the success of my business so far. It is so helpful to have another business owner to bounce ideas off of and ask questions when I am not sure what to do or say. He is also my biggest supporter when he knows I would rather give up than keep going, and he encourages me to keep trying. I can’t imagine starting a business without another business owner in my corner to help me through the tough times.
