We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cheyenne Corin . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cheyenne below.
Hi Cheyenne , thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Simple answer is I didn’t. I still struggle with this everyday even as a “successful news reporter.” I’m not sure if this is anything anyone completely ever overcomes, but I do think there are ways you can suppress it. I think the most important thing is to acknowledge when you have imposter syndrome and confront it. Almost every time before I get on TV, I have to tell myself “you deserve to be here, you worked for this.” I think this is especially difficult for Black women working in White spaces. It is easy to feel less than. What I do is remember what it took to get where I am and that it was never handed to me. I look at my peers and say they are no better than me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a TV News Reporter in Philadelphia and Radio News Reporter in Washington, DC. I absolutely love what I do and every day is a new adventure. Trust me though, being a journalist is far from glitz and glam. It is a very difficult and stressful job, but when you love it, it’s worth it. As someone who struggled with a speech impediment as a child, I never thought I would be using my voice for a living. I also have used my story to encourage others through mentorship and motivational speaking that they too can overcome any obstacle.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1) Passion
2) Kindness
3) Hard work
Passion was really something I think that drove me. When things get hard in this career, me being passionate is what continues to fuel me. If you are not passionate about something, do not do it. I say kindness was impactful in my journey because a lot of opportunities I have been blessed to receive, were because I was a blessing to someone else. Lastly, but definitely not least, hard work. Sometimes it’s not the “best” person who gets the job, but whoever wants it enough to work hard for it. I always and forever will outwork anyone and that is something I take pride in.
If you are early in your journey, I would figure out what your why is and continuously make sure you are living in that purpose.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
I would say the current challenge I am facing is deciding to stay put or move on. This is always the hardest decision for me, knowing when to walk away. This is even more difficult when you are happy in your current situation, but know there is more out there. It also comes down to knowing when it is your time to be still or to move. Rushing into something can be detrimental, but standing still also can be. For me, I pray and listen to my gut to make this decision.
