We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chiara Carroll. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chiara below.
Chiara , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I was blessed to have a hard working father and mother who were disciplined and had an excellent routine. They served in the Navy and that culture to persevere and serve translated into their every day lives. We were taught to be punctual and do everything to the best of our ability. There is something that just warms the soul when you not only do a job, but a job well done. There is also a deep respect for honesty and integrity. It’s an important value to not cut corners or deceive clients. I would credit the hard work I saw from my parents and where it got them in life to my desires for a strong work ethic.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Chiara Carroll Bridal was founded and birthed from a desire to see the modest client dress elevated and be respected by society for what she wore and how she wore it. I started a sole – proprietorship called ‘by Chiara’ and quickly realized at the time that my business model to design ready to wear would not be supported fully by the market I did and at the time their were more economical options to purchase and so I stuck with everyday alterations and honed in on sharpening that sword. Time passed and clients began reaching out to me about custom modest sleeves and more modest alterations. At this time, I quickly realized that in the Midwest there were few options readily available to the modest bride and decided to apply the desire to design with the passion of filling a need in the modest market hence the birth of Chiara Carroll Bridal.
Since then, Chiara Carroll Bridal showcased at The Modest Bridal Fashion Show, a bridal expo that showcases modest bridal apparel and mens evening wear. We are actively in the process of produces the 2025 collection that will be showcased in the fall. Brides will then be able to go on our website and schedule a time to come in and try on some of our gowns, we have accessories, we will be launching a gown rental program, and so much more.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities I would contribute to my journey is learning how to be patient, having an open heart to learn, and being open to correction.
You have to be patient with yourself as you grow, Good things take time. Learn and perfect your skillset. Read books and gain insight about your industry. Learn who your business demographics serves. Do not think you know it all, because you can learn a lot from other people and your elders- glean from them. Lastly, be open to correction and constructive criticism from someone you look up to and respect. Forgive yourself when you make mistakes. You’ll go far.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
There will be times where you will feel overwhelmed and want to shut down. You can’t do everything in one day. It again takes time to grow a successful business. Here is my advise and something that I do everyday. I write a list of what needs to get done absolutely that day, accomplish it and then shut my laptop. This bite-size approach everyday helps with accomplishing goals without being overwhelmed and overstimulated. Remember there is only one you and until you can accommodate a team, I would suggest getting a reasonable amount done daily with excellence than “everything”, but it was mediocre.
