We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chloe Anderson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chloe below.
Chloe, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Taking a leap of faith. I try to be different and do something no one has ever done. Sometimes you also gotta branch out and read, listen, etc. to new things and get new ideas. Every once in a while, I go through my old journals or songbooks and turn old ideas into new ones.
New things are always happening to me so creativity never dies.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’ve been writing songs since I was eight years old. I wear my heart on my sleeve as it’s how I tell my story. It’s helped me cope with heartbreak, trauma, good times, bad, everything. It’s so special to me because I feel like I’m sharing a part of my heart and I’ve never felt like I’ve been good at anything except songwriting. I’ve taken a step back from my traditional 9-5 job and am focusing all my attention on acting and music. I truly hope this leap of faith and effort pays off.
Recently, I’ve been remixing and remastering my debut album “Wonder” and am finishing up production with my sophomore album “Perception.”
I’m so excited for these to be completed! I hope people enjoy and relate.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’ve always been a people pleaser. I still kind of am. But once you grasp this crazy concept that not everyone is going to like you, it’s so freeing. Whether you made a mistake someone won’t forgive or you didn’t do anything at all… sometimes people just aren’t going to like you or what you do or what you believe. So just stay true to yourself and your morals and you’ll see who truly appreciates you for you. In addition, sometimes… hard work doesn’t pay off. Sometimes you work way harder than somebody else, whether it’s a co-worker or whoever. And it gets handed to them instead of you. You can think you deserve something and that you’ve worked so hard for it that you’ve earned it. And it’s not given to you. And my advice for that is to not let that discourage you, but rather, to help you re-evaluate the situation and see how you can come out victorious.
Finally… growing up SUCKS. Especially at the early age of adulthood. I’m 20. You lose friends, people think you’re too young or too old for something, people doubt your ability, you’re still finding your way, questioning everything. It’s okay to change your mind. It’s ok to take more time than others. So for all the kids out there, trust me, enjoy your childhood while it lasts. I’d give everything to go back even for a day. And for the ones my age, we can go our own pace. Everyone has their own path and sometimes success or goals come quick and easy and sometimes it takes longer.
Don’t give up and believe in yourself!
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I’ve found a lot more confidence and security in myself. I’m still awkward and anxious, but compared to where I was last year… the improvement! I’ve found the doubts roll off my back like water and I put all my faith in God. With Him, all things are possible. I’m stronger and happier than ever.
