We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chloe Morales a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chloe, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
In my artwork, I didn’t use to have a purpose. I taught myself to draw and paint through YouTube tutorials and consistent practice during one of the most trialing periods of my life. A lot of my work was very dark, and it reflected how I felt inside. I used art to disassociate from my reality. When I reached my lowest, I kept creating, and then Jesus saved me. My heart changed. I started to create because I knew who put the hope, peace, and purpose in my life. My art has changed so much since that point. For years now I’ve committed my business, Chloe’s Corner, to reflect the light of Christ onto everyone who sees my art. That’s my purpose. To serve the King & spread His beautiful creations throughout His people.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As an artist my job is to take something that was once empty and blank and create a beautiful colorful expression of life. I create original series like the Endangered Animals Project and the Tribes of Israel series. Outside of these paintings and drawings, I do custom commissions for my clients. I’ve been selling my artwork at The Red Thread LLC since 2015. I do in person events in Kansas City, Missouri and sell originals & prints on my website as well.
I use my art to express the beauty of the world around us and highlight the Glory of God. Despite the challenges I’ve faced in my art career, I have never given up on my dream. I want to share the gift God has given me to the world. We as people, deserve to see the color, light, and wonders that life has to bring.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The passion to create is all you need. Each skill comes with practice. It took me years of repetitive practice to get my skill to where it’s at. It takes grit & perseverance too. Having that passion will get you far, it really will, but what impacted my journey the most is WHY I was doing it all. Why create in the world where creativity is so often thrown away? If you can’t answer that, then when problems come you will lose momentum and give in. I do this for the King, Jesus Christ. He is the ultimate creator and maker of all good things. He gives each of us our gifts and it’s up to us to use them for good or for harm. Sit with that truth, and it will change your journey.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Yes, in fact, recently I’ve had to change career pathways. Outside of art, I was pursuing a career in public safety. I took 911 calls by day, and built my business by night. I love learning & helping others. While on a study abroad trip in June of this year, I suffered from a severe seizure and was diagnosed with generalized seizure disorder. It changed everything. I lost my career, ability to drive, and energy. In this last month I’ve gotten the unique opportunity to work on art more since I have this time to heal. No matter the challenged faced, with Christ, He always pulls me through. I’m trusting the process and God’s plan for my life right now.
