We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chloe Yan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chloe below.
Hi Chloe, so happy to have you on the platform with us today and excited to chat about your lessons and insights. Our ability to make good decisions can massively impact our lives, careers and relationships and so it would be very helpful to hear about how you built your decision-making skills.
When I make decisions, I usually go with what I truly want the most. Then I ask myself: what’s the worst-case scenario if I choose this? And more importantly, can I handle it?
If the answer is yes, I go for it. If not, I consider other options.
I tend to make decisions pretty quickly, and once I’ve made up my mind, I don’t dwell on the paths I didn’t take. I commit to the choice I made and stick with it, even when things get tough.
Because in my view, no matter which option you choose, there will always be challenges. So I’d rather face the challenges that come with something I really want.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m currently focused on interactive art installations and exploring how technology—especially AI—can be used to create meaningful human experiences.
My work often combines physical materials like acrylic and mirrors with sensors, cameras, and real-time feedback systems. I especially enjoy using Arduino and hardware-based interaction to create installations that respond to people’s presence in subtle or unexpected ways.
Beyond the technical aspect, I’m drawn to embedding philosophical ideas into my work—using art as a way to provoke thought, challenge perception, and spark introspection.
What excites me the most is building things that invite people to question what they see and how they feel—whether that’s through a mirrored installation that reacts to their presence, or a digital product that adapts to their emotions.
In the near future, I hope to bring these two worlds—art and technology—even closer, by developing projects that blur the line between immersive storytelling and human-computer interaction.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say three things made the biggest impact on my journey:
First, once I make a decision, I commit to it. I don’t waste time second-guessing—I focus on following through, even when things get difficult. That mindset has helped me build trust in myself and actually finish what I start.
Second, learning how to work with Arduino and basic electronics was a game-changer. It gave me a way to bring abstract ideas to life through physical interaction. For anyone interested in interactive design or creative tech, I highly recommend exploring hardware—it teaches you to think spatially, structurally, and creatively all at once.
Third, building a solid foundation in JavaScript has been incredibly valuable. It’s such a versatile language, and having coding skills has allowed me to quickly prototype ideas, build interactive systems, and collaborate across both creative and technical teams.
My advice to anyone early in their journey: Be decisive. Don’t overthink every move. Stay curious, and learn by doing—even if it’s messy. You’ll grow faster than you think.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes, I’m definitely open to collaborations.
I’m looking to connect with people who have strong artistic ideas they’re excited to bring to life—whether it’s an installation, a digital experience, or something completely experimental. I’d love to co-create projects where we can bounce ideas off each other and develop something meaningful together.
I have experience with Arduino, JavaScript, and interactive technologies, so I’m happy to provide technical support on collaborative projects. I’m also interested in teaming up with folks who are exploring AI product development—whether on the creative or functional side.
If any of this resonates with you, feel free to reach out! I’m always open to brainstorming and seeing where ideas can go.
