Meet Chris Brown

We were lucky to catch up with Chris Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

When asked in an interview about how I found my purpose, I would respond:

“I discovered my life’s purpose by grounding myself in my Christian ideals and establishing a deep relationship with God. Seeking signs and guidance led me to the field of photography, where I am passionate about being a certified memory catcher (CMC). My purpose at this stage in life is to impact lives on various levels, starting with bringing smiles through capturing beautiful moments. Witnessing clients’ excitement and satisfaction with their images makes the work truly fulfilling for me.”

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
WRA Productions is a contemporary photography brand that embodies a sense of community and encouragement through its creative pursuits. The brand, which focuses on modern aesthetics, aims to seize and share moments imbued with warmth, unity, and artistic sophistication.

The name WRA/WRASSASSIN originates from my athletic background, particularly my role as a safety during which I faced wide receivers. This led to the moniker “wide receiver assassin,” eventually shortened to Wrassassin, becoming my photographer alias. Wraproductions is my company, dedicated to capturing cherished memories. My overarching goal is to turn frowns upside down by simply preserving moments in time.

Specializing in sports, events, and portrait photography, I am equipped to capture a diverse array of subjects. With the motto “Just Book, I’ll handle the rest!” I am committed to delivering exceptional photography experiences, ensuring that each moment is expertly and memorably documented.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Here are three essential qualities/skills that every aspiring photographer should cultivate:

1. **Technical Proficiency:**
– Understanding that the quality of your gear doesn’t solely determine your success is crucial. While equipment is important, mastering the technical aspects of your camera is equally vital. This includes comprehending features such as white balance, focus points, shutter speed, ISO, aperture, and more. A proficient photographer can maximize the potential of their equipment by having a deep understanding of its functionalities.

2. **Continuous Learning and Adaptability:**
– Embracing a mindset of constant learning is key in the dynamic field of photography. Recognizing that there is always room for improvement and staying updated on the latest techniques and trends contributes to growth. Platforms like YouTube University offer a wealth of resources where aspiring photographers can enhance their skills, learn new techniques, and gain insights from experienced professionals.

3. **Practical Experience:**
– One of the most effective ways to improve as a photographer is to get out and shoot regularly. Practical experience allows you to apply theoretical knowledge, understand real-world challenges, and develop a personal style. Whether it’s capturing everyday scenes, experimenting with different settings, or working on specific projects, hands-on experience is invaluable in honing your craft.

In summary, aspiring photographers should focus on technical proficiency, maintain a continuous learning mindset, and prioritize practical experience to develop a well-rounded skill set. Understanding that gear is a tool, and not the sole determinant of success, empowers photographers to leverage their skills and creativity effectively.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful things my parents ever did for me can be summarized into two fundamental pillars: instilling in me the principles of faith and morality through our lifelong involvement in the church, and investing wholeheartedly in my aspirations and dreams.

First and foremost, my parents introduced me to Christ and nurtured my spiritual growth within the church community. Their commitment to guiding me along the path of faith and morality has shaped my worldview and provided a solid foundation for navigating life’s challenges and triumphs.

Additionally, their unwavering support and belief in my potential manifested in a tangible way when they took the leap of faith to invest in my dreams. It was with their encouragement and the gift of my first camera, a Canon Rebel T6, that I embarked on a journey into the world of photography. Since then, I have never looked back.

Having successful and loving parents has been the cornerstone of my life’s journey thus far. The skills, values, and guidance they have imparted to me have been instrumental in my growth and development as a young man, especially as a young black man navigating a complex world.

Their belief in me has empowered me to pursue my passions, embrace my identity, and strive for excellence in all endeavors. I am profoundly grateful for the profound impact they have had on shaping the person I am today, and I carry their lessons and love with me every step of the way.
