Meet Chris Farmer

We were lucky to catch up with Chris Farmer recently and have shared our conversation below.

Chris, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

Developing confidence and self-esteem as a singing guitar player comes from steady progress and genuine connection with your music. The more you play, the more you realize that confidence isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being present. Every time you strum a song cleanly, hit that harmony just right, or make it through a performance without second-guessing yourself, you’re stacking small wins that add up to big confidence. And when you start enjoying the process instead of judging the outcome, that’s when the magic really happens—your true musical personality starts to shine through.

That’s exactly what we focus on inside Strum, Smile & Sing, my online coaching program for singing guitar players. You’ll learn how to build confidence not just in your playing and singing, but in the way you present your songs—with energy, emotion, and authenticity. We’ll help you polish your technique, expand your repertoire, and celebrate every step forward, no matter how small. Because when you feel good about your playing, your audience feels it too—and that’s where confidence turns into pure joy.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

After years of touring with groups like The Beach Boys, The Turtles, and members of America, Doobie Brothers, and Steely Dan, I’m very excited to announce that I’ve taking my successful in town one on one music lessons to an on-line format. strumsmileandsing.com is the ultimate online coaching program for singing guitar players who are ready to sound amazing and have fun doing it. This program helps you massively grow your song list in lickety-split time, giving you the skills and confidence to strum, sing, and perform your favorite tunes with real polish and personality. But this isn’t just another lesson program—it’s a full-on performance transformation experience. In Strum, Smile & Sing, you’ll perfect your guitar playing and singing so you can master and perform your favorite songs as good as—or even better than—the originals. With personalized coaching, smart strategies, and plenty of laughs along the way, you’ll not only sound incredible but feel incredible every time you pick up your guitar. It’s the most rewarding way to turn your passion for music into confident, crowd-pleasing performances that make you truly shine.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I go over this in depth in my video presentation. There are three key components to our coaching style to get you fast results with your chordal playing with vocals. And they are… well, it’s best that you check out the webinar at strumsmileandsing.com for a complete explanation.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Over the years, I’ve performed with expert players like Skunk Baxter and Joe Walsh on lead guitar, Gerry and Dewey from the group America on their acoustics, singers like Carl and Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys), Mark and Howard (Flo & Eddie:The Turtles) studio vocalist Ron Dante, and many more. They all share something in common that pros at the top of their game have acquired. I’ve discovered these traits and have been able to help spread the word with our strumsmileandsing.com program.
