Meet Chris Mari

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chris Mari. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chris below.

Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Honestly, it’s just been in my blood to work hard for what you want, I think that’s just because of my ethnic background.

Being a filipino-american, we are one of the hardest working bunch of people in the world, it’s in our nature to work hard in our industries, and somehow we do it with a smile, I wish I could point to why, but we just like to grind.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a golf coach and digital content creator based in Orlando, FL!

I was on 2 seasons on an entrepreneurship reality tv show called the Blox, hosted by the legendary MTV’s Weston Bergmann, which is available to be streamed on Prime Video.

Being in the golf industry for 5 years, I have finally started to get comfortable trying to figure out who I am in this industry, alongside how do I stand out from others.

Now that I have been involved in reality TV the last 2 years, it has helped me market myself as a golf coach a whole lot better, alongside make my messaging more clear.

Bridging the gap between the two sides of my life has been a fun one to figure out, as people can get to know who I actually am.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Number one is communication skills.

As a golf coach, it is an ABSOLUTE MUST to be able to communicate what you are trying to tell someone in the simplest way possible. Golf is such a hard sport to get good at and advance skills wise, and there is no need to make this harder than it needs to be. That’s what I have always based my coaching style on, I can get you to become a better golfer in the simplest ways possible, you just have to ask me how.

Number two is being coachable.

There’s THOUSANDS of golf coaches out there, and I would be lying to you if I said I knew everything there is about golf, I really don’t. There is so much knowledge out there that can be make me a better coach, and I do my best to soak in as much as possible. Being coachable as a coach is important because it shows you are willing to keep learning and you are willing to change your ways in order to be better.

Number three is patience.

I have to keep reminding myself of this one particular piece of advice. Sometimes your clients might not get it right away. Sometimes you don’t get the results of what you’re looking for, or what they’re looking for, but it’s about getting 1% better every day. At 28 years old, I hate to admit it, I am quite impatient on A LOT of things, but I know I am not alone in that. To get to where you want to be, it’s a process, and you have to keep reminding yourself, and your clients, over and over again that you will get there, in time.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
People know Wes Bergmann for being one of the most iconic reality TV stars in the last 20 years, but I know Wes Bergmann for being a mentor, a teacher, and of course, a friend.

The entire Blox community that he has created with all these entrepreneurs is literally mind boggling. The fact that I have over 1000 people I can lean on when I have questions about anything business and entrepreneurship related is something that I can never repay him for, and this came from a television show out of all things possible.

I’ll forever be grateful for him giving me the opportunity to become apart of the Blox community, and now they are my second family, and I don’t know where I’d be without them.
