We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chris Robinson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chris below.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a stand up comedian, actor and writer. The most exciting thing about stand up is when I discover a new joke or tag to a joke that kills. It’s an exhilarating feeling when you are doing a joke that’s getting huge pops and you haven’t even gotten to the punchline yet. Then once the punchline hits and people lose it, it’s incredibly satisfying. Especially when you see tears in their eyes from laughter, or you hear them snort because you know they aren’t giving you pitty laughs to be nice. I like to push the boundaries as well in my comedy so when I say something particularly shocking I love the different reactions that audience members have. Especially if it’s a black show and people get up and run around or slap tables. There is nothing that compares to that feeling. I just recorded a new stand up comedy album at the end of November so I am super excited to release it in 2025 and show everyone the material I’ve been working on the past couple of years.
In acting it’s exciting when you prepare a scene on your own one way then you shoot it with a partner and they bring another element to the scene that you didn’t think of on your own and you feed off each other. Or when you improvise a line that ends up making it to the final cut is very satisfying as well.
When it comes to writing it’s exciting to see an actor take words that you came up with and make it their own. Especially if you hear them getting laughs off of something you wrote.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Sometimes I feel overwhelmed and I try and just take everything one step at a time. Find what the most important task at hand is and bang it out first then move on. Also when you feel overwhelmed by your work load think about the alternative. Would you prefer to not be working? Stop and think about times when you had nothing to do and you were dreaming that you would be busy with work that you love. There were days when I had to work my 9-5 at a phone store, study lines for an audition between customers, run and do an audition on my lunch break, go back to finish my work day, then drive home to make dinner, then after dinner drive an hour to a random venue to headline a show. It was very overwhelming at times but I much preferred doing that then just going to work and going home.
