We were lucky to catch up with Chris Rodway recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
This is actually a good question for me, as I’ve always struggled with major self esteem issues, & it’s still a very ongoing process. The most important part, for me personally at least, is to constantly remind myself that I am capable of doing this, it’s okay to trust myself and to trust the process. And also just accepting that everything won’t happen all at once, and that it doesn’t for anybody it’s not me falling behind, and that the success will come. And I find the more I work and the more I do it gets a little easier too, truly putting my all into my craft has done more for my confidence than anything else in my life.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a television and film producer with several active projects, my company is called Movie One LLC. I am also a working actor, and lead singer of the sunset strip based rock band Madam Riot.
Music and film have had such a profound effect on me from a very early age, more so than I could ever put into words. It is the greatest honor of my life that I get to create both for a living, I am truly blessed.
My band Madam Riot is playing next on March 11th at the Viper Room. Come check us out, if you wanna rock & have a good time, you’ll definitely dig what we do!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’d say negotiation skills, competency in your craft, & ability to collaborate well with others are my top three.
The best advice I can give is to start developing these skills as early as possible, and always keep up with them, you can always be better and learn more. And as per the collaboration, your greatest asset is the team you surround yourself with. When you choose a team, you have to figure out (& be honest with yourself) about what areas you shine in, & also where you aren’t as strong. Where your weaknesses lie, you bring in people who shine in those areas. Start there, & when you find the right partners take what they say seriously, & really let it be a group effort. A true collaboration will get you something much better every time.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
If I don’t feel overwhelmed at any point, I know there’s something not right. I’m a firm believer that you should always be biting off more than you think you can chew, dream big and act even bigger. Otherwise you’ll never be more than you think you can be.
Also it’s helpful to remember that things happen only one step at a time, and nothing is impossible. So I say when you feel overwhelmed just take a breather and “eat the elephant” one bite at a time.
