Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chris Schniepp. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chris , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I think my resilience comes from the experiences that shaped me early on, especially losing my younger brother when I was just five years old. He was only two at the time, but even at that young age, it was so clear he loved sports and cars—that’s what we spent most of our time playing with together. Losing him at such a young age was a pain I didn’t fully understand at the time, but it left a mark that’s stayed with me. As I grew older, I realized that his memory has become a source of strength.
Recently, I faced another significant loss when my grandfather passed away last year. I was 25, and he had always been the one who fueled my love for cars. He introduced us to playing with them when we were little, and that connection—between my brother, my grandpa, and those shared memories—has stayed with me throughout my life.
These experiences have taught me to persevere through pain and find joy in the things and people I love. They’ve also made me deeply empathetic; losing both of them helps me connect with others going through loss because I know what it feels like to carry grief and still move forward. Honoring their memory is part of why I work so hard—to live a life they’d be proud of, to hold onto the things we loved together, and to keep growing through whatever life throws my way.”
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an automotive photographer, dedicated to capturing the essence and artistry of cars through still images. My work focuses on showcasing vehicles in a way that highlights their design, personality, and presence, whether it’s the timeless curves of a classic car or the cutting-edge innovation of modern engineering. Every shot is an opportunity to tell a story, blending technical precision with creative vision to make each vehicle shine.
While photography is my primary focus, videography plays an important role in what I do as well. Video allows me to bring cars to life in motion, adding depth and emotion to the visual storytelling. Together, these mediums create a complete experience that connects people with the beauty and power of automobiles.
My passion for this craft goes beyond the technical—it’s deeply rooted in a lifelong love of cars, inspired by moments shared with family growing up. That connection adds a personal layer to every project I take on.
Right now, I’m exploring ways to elevate my photography with new techniques and creative approaches. I’m also excited about working with car enthusiasts, brands, and events to create visuals that leave a lasting impact.
For those who share a love for cars or the art of photography, I’d love for you to follow along as I continue to grow and refine my work.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities have been most impactful in my journey as an automotive photographer and videographer: creativity, empathy, and a willingness to learn.
1. Creativity: This is at the heart of what I do. Cars are photographed and filmed all the time, so finding fresh, unique ways to showcase them is essential. I’ve learned that creativity isn’t just about having ideas—it’s about pushing through challenges to bring those ideas to life. For anyone starting out, I’d recommend experimenting as much as possible. Try different angles, lighting, and compositions, and don’t be afraid to take risks. Your personal style will develop over time as you try new things.
2. Empathy and Listening: One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is how much a person’s story can add to the art. Whether it’s understanding the bond an owner has with their car or learning about the history behind a build, truly listening has helped me create more meaningful work. For those starting out, I’d suggest connecting with the people behind the cars—ask questions, listen, and let their passion inspire your vision. It not only enhances the work but also builds relationships that can take your craft further.
3. A Willingness to Learn: This has been a game-changer for me. From mastering the technical side of cameras to understanding the subtle details of composition and editing, the learning never stops. I’ve also gained valuable insights by studying other photographers and videographers, attending workshops, and keeping up with industry trends. For anyone just starting, I’d say invest time in both formal and informal learning—watch tutorials, read about techniques, and stay curious.
Above all, remember that growth takes time. Be patient with yourself, stay open to feedback, and celebrate small wins along the way. The journey is as rewarding as the destination.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I’m always open to partnering and collaborating with others who share a passion for cars and storytelling. I’m especially interested in working with car enthusiasts, brands, event organizers, and other creatives—whether it’s through photo shoots, video projects, or content creation that brings automotive stories to life.
If you’re someone who’s passionate about cars and has a unique perspective to share, I’d love to connect. Whether you’re an individual with a cool car build or a brand looking to highlight your products, I believe that collaboration can lead to powerful, inspiring work.
