Meet Chrissy Covington

We were lucky to catch up with Chrissy Covington recently and have shared our conversation below.

Chrissy, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I can’t really explain it. I don’t know about purpose, but I’ve always wanted to make people happy. I’ve also always wanted to be the center of attention, the one they smiled at, the joke that fixed the bad day. It helps me. It helps them. It’s just always been with me. I’ve had a prominent disdain for the loneliness and sadness in others since I was a little kid. I hate to see someone cry. I can’t stand it. I think it’s because I truly understand sadness and isolation. I was bullied at times growing up, and I genuinely always want to remind everyone there is happiness and goodness all around and to never be jaded by the past.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I co-host the number one morning show in Lubbock. Texas, The RockShow, on 94.5 KFMX. Our show was syndicated to 4 other stations last year in Texas and Oklahoma. It’s hard to say how it all happened for me, but I think manifestation may have played a role…ha. I grew up listening to The RockShow when I was a teenager. I always thought it was the coolest, but, I never in a million years thought I’d be on the show, or even the radio, for that matter. It was never part of my plan. I started out as a divorced and disgruntled stand-up comic, and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time to impress the right person. My station called me over a year after seeing my perform stand-up. They remembered me and wrote me down. When a position became available, they called me up while I lived over 1500 miles away in Minnesota and asked me to take the job. I did. It’s been the best thing to ever happen to me in my life, and it was completely unexpected. When I say I think I “manifested” my career, I’m referring to myself, running on the side of the highway while laid off during COVID, and focusing my attention on how I could be a performer on a larger scale. It came to me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that helped me the most on this journey are: Boldness, bravery, and my willingness to accept the unknown and roll with it. I had no idea what I was doing, but I was able to assure those around me that I COULD do it. I was capable. I was ready. I check my fly, walk with authority, and own it, even when I am afraid.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents have done so many things to make me who I am, but, their determination to make me bilingual, in both English and German, the way they’ve shown me how to love others by adopting 9 other children as my siblings, and the way they have forgiven me for my many mistakes and continued to root for me, have been the most impactful things on my life and career. I love and cherish their kindness.
