We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chrissy René. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chrissy René below.
Chrissy René, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Growing up with a brother with a spinal cord injury (quadriplegic), I learned at a young age that resilience is key. He has always been such a go getter. He has never let his situation deter him from going after his goals and desires, and because of this, he is absolutely thriving. And for me, because of him, I’ve looked at the world very differently since I was 12 years old. Since then, I’ve always been drawn to people who deal with adversity because I know there’s a depth to them. Their resilience rubs off on me. Oh. And of course Aa to the liyah!!! 😜 “Dust yourself off and try again.” I sing that to myself quite often.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I take beautiful portraits, clothed or unclothed, of spectacular humans!
My favorite part of my job is making people feel comfortable in their skin. Twice in the last week I’ve heard “I’ve never liked my profile until now!”. I mean come on!! It’s truly the best thing ever.
To be a part of someone growing to love their body, their face, their back, their booty! It’s an experience like no other. For them AND for me.
I specialize in working with anxious clients who usually say this is something they could never have imagined themselves doing. I hold your hand the whole way from our first phone consult, to posing and wardrobe, hair and makeup, choosing photos, designing and ordering albums and products…it’s truly a full service white glove experience. All you have to do is be brave enough to show up and let the magic happen!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My top quality would be passion. I think my passion for what I do is the most important part of the equation. It’s what drives me to continuously grow and provide the best experience I can possibly imagine. I believe my top skill would be the way I pose my clients. My posing style is a mish mosh of inspiration from many posing courses and workshops topped off with my love for effortlessly cool and confident vibes. I take my time and don’t click that shutter until you look BAD ASS!
My advice for those early in their photography journey or ANY journey really, would be to make sure that you are so so passionate about the product or service you are providing. Not only will it help you lead an authentic life, but you’ll love waking up in the morning! You’ll be showing up for those around you with a different energy. Oh! And don’t be afraid of a smaller niche. If that’s where your joy is, there will be people to serve. When people are searching for something specific, they’d rather have someone who specializes in that one thing! It’s ok to have all of your eggs in one basket! Just get all the education and guidance you can and dive in!
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Trusting my gut. In the past I was severely overworked because I constantly second guessed my shots. I would overshoot. I would not be able to narrow down the shots in a timely fashion. I would edit too much and too many! Once I finally was able to start trusting my gut, not a single thing has changed as far as sales or how much my clients love their experience. If anything, they feel more at ease because of the confidence I have in my ability to do my job!
