Meet Christian Camilo Diaz

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christian Camilo Diaz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Christian Camilo, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

I’ve found that as an actor it’s very very easy to feel like you’re never doing enough or that it’s just not working
The imposter syndrome starts to try to take over
We’re so exposed to what’s happening in other people’s careers we start to compare and put ourselves down
“We’re the same age, and they’re up on that stage or screen and I’m here”

I get to remind myself that creating is a passion and that I get to enjoy this, I get to fall in love with the craft over and over again and that I do it with one person in mind to please and that’s myself

The life of an actor is an uncomfortable one and you take the good with the bad but I’d always rather be doing something that feeds my passion and makes me infinitely happy so I persist and learn and grow along the way to stay true to why I act
To be truthful and honest with a role and in the end hope to come out with something I can be proud of because I know I put my all into it

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Christian Camilo Diaz, I was born in Colombia, Pereira and at a very young age migrated to London, England with my family in search of a life with opportunities to grow.
I moved to NY in 2020 to attend the 3 year conservatory program at The Stella Adler Studio of Acting
I’ve worked on a number of different productions around the city mostly in theatre, but have been in search of ways to get into doing more Film and TV

I’m a passionate actor, I feel as though acting has opened my mind, body and soul up to a world I would be closed off to had I followed another career path, this work or lifestyle has served me to not just expand my mind and heart to the different aspects of humanity but as a doorway to self growth
A Stella Adler saying that has stuck with me since I heard it was that “Growth as an actor and growth as a human being are synonymous”
I constantly strive for growth, for truth and honesty
These are the things I focus on delivering in my work
The things that I hope an audience fully receives when experiencing a piece of my work

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received during my time of self discovery as an actor has come from one of my mentors: the ever passionate Melissa Maxwell, she taught me to always find a way to feed the fire inside me, to keep from extinguishing the flames of motivation to pursue this dream because it will either eat you alive or die out and only you are in control of keeping that flame burning bright and to my advantage
She also taught me one of my most favourite lessons, to remember to create without judgement of what the rest of the world will think
“You are not a critic your job is to create”
Any time I feel myself falling into the doubts I hear Melissa’s words, I wake up and keep creating
I am forever grateful to have been blessed with such an empowering mentor, her words have truly changed my life
And as a third, to never lose faith and belief in myself, persistence is key and I cannot fail if I never stop trying
So I will never stop trying
I pass these wise words onto any creative who needs to hear it, believe in yourself, create for you, don’t die with your dreams still buried inside you

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m always in search of people to create with, whether it be for a play reading, a bare bones stage production, full production, short films, student films
Any chance to bring an idea that I can find passion for to life is an opportunity to do the thing I love
I’m interested in finding like minded and
passion driven people to build with.
