Christian, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I feel my resilience came from trusting the process, being curious and determined to learn and grow from whatever the situation may be, and knowing that the only thing I can control is how I choose to respond. What we focus on matters. Resilience for me is a mindset, perspective, energy and a choice.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

When you look around in your space and there are more piles and things out than put away or when you can’t seem to find what you are looking for or you are feeling anxious and overwhelmed in life not knowing where to start. I help weed through the piles, find a functional and organized place for things so that they can be found, and I provide a place to start so that there is less worry and the ability to accomplish more.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three skills I feel that have been the most impactful in my journey. The first one, is always using a daily calendar and todo system (it used to be in a daily planner, now it is my phone calendar, reminders, and lists). If you don’t have a daily system, find one that works for you. The more you keep in your mind trying to remember the more stressed and anxious you will be.

The second, is creating a set of rules I live by allowing them to be a guide of my values and beliefs. This allows me to get things done and not have to overthink it. One of my rules is to start the day with a clean sink – the dishes get done the night before or first thing in the morning, therefore I never think about having to do the dishes. Think of your beliefs and values and what rules would you set for yourself to follow?

My third skill, is learning to let go of negative energy, thoughts and pain through the use of mindfulness, meditation, yoga and emotional freedom technique (EFT) tapping. The daily practice of mental wellness is so important to our overall health and well being. I encourage others to find a daily practice that works for them.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I am feeling overwhelmed, the first thing I do is take a few deep breaths. I then identify if I need to squash any negative thinking and do so if needed. It helps to also think of five things I am grateful for. I ask myself, what I can control and what is out of my control? What do I need to accept and where can I pivot? I then leverage my organizational skills and organize a plan and identify a place to start. That is just the energy I need to change my focus and feeling of being overwhelmed to feeling calm and productive.
