We were lucky to catch up with Christian Pond recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
It comes from alot of different things. God, my parents, different people ive looked up to growing up. The fear of failing is a big one too. Consistency creates success. Get up and work hard everyday.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Im a guitar player from a small town called Grand Ronde in Oregon. I started playing in bars when I was 13. Started with blues music. I’ve kept at it over the last 15 years and now im playing with a country/rock artist named Jacquie Roar. I also have a band called The Boondock Boys.
Jacquie placed 4th on the voice on season 23. Shes killing it and we have plans to be all over the country next year.
The Boondock Boys is something me and the singer, Skyylar Pelous, started and we really made a name for ourselves in Oregon with it. Super proud of it.
When im not out playing shows, I also have a junk removal business and sell firewood as well. So im in two very different worlds simultaneously. I live out in the woods on 40 acres. Fun chaos at concerts, and peace and quiet when im home with my family. I love it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Id say the biggest thing is deciding what you want, making goals, and working everyday until you hit those goals. If people can decide what they want, then thats half the battle. There’s all the information you need out there to get it. Having the work ethic to keep at it everyday is the other half.
Youtube is how I learned guitar and many other things.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I cant single anyone out really. My parents of course. My wife has helped me alot the last 13 years. And all the people ive worked with along the way. All the artists and bandmates ive had. They’ve all taught me something. Whether its about music specifically, or how to communicate, or just about working hard in general.
