Meet Christiana Rice

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christiana Rice. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christiana below.

Christiana, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Have I overcome imposter syndrome? Not really; not yet. I sometimes imagine myself as an old crone (in the most beautiful sense of the word), relishing in the satisfaction of having arrived at a sense of full acceptance of who I am, what I’ve contributed to the world and the validity of my abilities or qualifications, especially as a woman. Won’t that be wonderful? For now, I just keep walking, one foot in front of the other, stepping into spaces that align with my passion and gifting and choosing to trust that I am enough. I find that contending for equity means showing up whole heartedly, for me and for those who’v’e been pressed down and away. I am never an imposter when I follow my heart. My crone self reminds me of that.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a communicator, I write and speak, curate learning environments and trainings around topics of spirituality, leadership, social change and fostering belonging across difference. I believe in the magic of co-creation, coming together for meaning making. I get to do this by producing gatherings and events that are story driven and artful. I accompany people as a coach, helping them live out their call and contribution in the world. Some of this I do with an organization called the Parish Collective. Some of this I do on my own.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I grew up in Tokyo, Japan so the skill communicating across cultures feels innate to me. I’m grateful for how much cross-cultural upbringing has made me a bridge person across layers of difference in all kinds of settings. Self assurance, leadership and communicating vision are both a natural part of my wiring AND a skill I’ve honed over the years. I also live with a good degree of wonder and curiosity about God’s world and all of its beautiful inhabitants. I think this posture has helped me be a good listener.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always, incessantly, looking for collaborators who are creatively loving their corner of the world. Let’s create together! And I can weave you in with others who care about similar things!
